The nature of most hydrocodone preparations, as in the US and UK they are always mixed with either an NSAID, paracetamol or and antihistamine, will only be a problem generally speaking if it is a preparation mixed with ibuprofen where crushing might cause increased stomach upset from the NSAID. Generally speaking hydrocodone could be crushed to be placed in applesauce etc as has been suggested, therefore it would not be absorbed more rapidly if chewed or crushed. Nor would the effective dosage period be lessened as the half-life of the hydrocodone remains constant. Crushing of the tablets has been performed by some persons who have tried inhaling or injecting the substance, but as it has paracetamol in it it is dangerous to use the drug in this fashion, which is why it is labelled do not crush. As newer formulations of the medications are released, some companies are incorporating drugs to counteract the opiates should the tablets be crushed into pain medication tablets. This is being done to decrease the misuse of pain medication, and the resale of drugs prescribed to patients.

That's a great question. I have a bottle of it from an ankle surgery a few years ago and I have had a few stuck in my throat at times. I'm not a medical doctor, just a doctor of love....I don't know the scientific reason for not crushing them but I would assume the bulk of the pill needs to hit the stomach for absorption purposes.
If you are actually taking it for surgery recovery I would make some jello and stick it in a cube and just let it slide down...easy.
Be careful, painkiller in large quanities can give you massive constipation. You'll wish you had both arms broken instead of a traffic jam in your colon.

As any pharmacist worth a grain of salt will tell you, if you chew or break some medications, it can change the chemical make up of the pill. Sometimes that is not dangerous, but sometimes it can even be fatal. That is why there are warnings posted on the bottles. If it says don't chew it -- don't chew it.

If you chew this medication it will do a few things... none of which will get u high all at once or, make the effects shorter.
It will ruin your teeth for starters, your stomach will be next. If you have trouble swallowing this medication you can cut it in half. You can also dissolve it, say, in applesauce, not much mind you, or juice, it needs to be diluted so it will not to harm your tummy!
Look it up on the Internet... Web MD... under medications

Will it work "better"? No. It may start working sooner, but it will also wear off sooner too.The volume of the drug is the same regardless of what you do. Pills don't just sit in your stomach forever before dissolving. Ever had one start to dissolve on your tongue? It will taste really nasty by the way. Unless you are one of those that just can't swallow a pill why bother.

Just cut them in half you'll b fine. It might make you nauseous but that is because the med will get into your system quicker like a rush. DO NOT TAKE MORE THAN PRESCRIBED!!! It is a very addictive medication and you don't want to be marked as a drug seeking patient (DSB)drug seeking behavior most hospitals keep very detailed records on these people mine does.

ya know, I dont get that high! Baffles me why people would take it to get dizzy, isnt that what merry-go-rounds are for?
If you crush it you get it all at once and can seriously OD. And yes it would wear off faster too.
