10 years - go to the State department website for passports to find out all the information that you need. Do not bother calling the 1-800 number, or calling the number to find local passport issuing agencies, because you will be on hold for 40 minutes, asked to press 1 for english, and get no answers. You can also try your post office - most double as a passport agency.

Well if the person getting the passport is a minor they give it for five years;but if the one getting the passport is over 18 years of age they give it for 10 years.I know this because I have one and my two children have theirs too.

5 years. I have mine right in front of me and on the very last page it says " -This passport canot be extended beyond five years"
