My brother spent a month trying to talk me out of getting a motorcycle, with horror stories of people killed in motorcycle accidents. After I went ahead and got it, (since it was my money, my bike, my choice) he came to the conclusion he wanted one too! Only bigger! What makes people think this way? Is it just the fact that someone else has something they don't? Or maybe that it is more desirable after seeing it? What is your opinion?

I'm just be stealing bits from the others. Insecurity, envy, greed, jealousy, and competitiveness are all valid answers. In the case of your brother, it might be possible that he really did not realize how much fun a bike would be until he saw yours.

Because they see it's not so bad afterall. Or they see how much having it would better themselves. Or maybe they just want to show you up and be better than you. It reminds me of my dogs. One of my bigger dogs will be playing with a toy. My male chihuahua, who didn't care about the toy before, now decides that he wants it. So he barks and barks at the bigger dog until the bigger dog just gets up and walks away from the toy. So the chihuahua will take it and start playing until he notices that the bigger dog now has a different toy. And the cycle repeats itself.

it is definite insecurity, and lack of a stable self esteem. There are people out there who, no matter how much money they have, will always want more, not because they think it makes them look good, but because they feel threatened by anyone who they might view as better than them your brother is obviously insecure when it comes to you.

Envy and Jealousy are like a matched set of bookends.
One seems to be no good without the other.
