I have a long history of talkative cats, but the one I currently have constantly follows me around meowing (and she has a particularly obnoxious meow). If I leave her in the apartment and sit outside the door (she can't see me) she'll yowl by the door until I return, if I'm on the computer she gets in my face and yowls and cries until I pet her. But the instant I pet her, she tries to bite my hand and takes off running. I'm considering getting a kitty-muzzle, or perhaps having her vocal cords removed (that's a joke)!
Seriously though, any suggestions for quieting down an obnoxious, talkative cat! (p.s. no, she's not in heat - she's spayed!)

okay, let me clarify: I play with my cat every day (she plays fetch!) and I also give her lots of love and attention. The times when she bites then runs it is only three feet away to the bed. I agree that she is bored, but in my current living situation I can't get her a companion. Those of you who suggest I give her up or do something abusive can go rot, thanks for the rest of the good suggestions!

There is always the remote possibility something is wrong but that doesn't sound like the case here. It sounds like she simply loves her mommie a whole bunch to me. She sounds VERY attached to you and seems to be working very hard to get your attention. I have one who does the "come here and love me" thing and then bites me as well. He wants to play. I think that sorta means "tag, you're IT!" When I give in and chase or wrestle with him he stops the biting AND the screaming. And trust me, there has never been a cat with a more annoying scream than this guy. His name isn't SIREN for no reason!!! LOLOL

Well, some cats (like my own) need more attention than others. Seems to be that your cat is bored. Buy some toys or make them yourself. Something that entertains her. Fortunately, cats are simple and entertain themselves with things such as shoe boxes, cords, etc. Play a little time a day with her, and then get her a different toy. Once she gets bored of it, change it for another. Yep! Having that kind of cat (which they are usually very smart) is high maintenance!
Try talking to her too, it helps.

Some intensive play time with you to sate her need for your company seems to be the obvious answer. You simply have an extremely affectionate kitty who adores you. Have you tried leaving her alone with an article of your clothing that carries your scent? It won't be the same as you being there, but it might cut down on the yowling a little.

Although most cat sniffers will never admit this because "all cats are such darling, precious sweeties", the truth is; some cats either love to be annoying or it's their nature to be annoying. Accommodating such an annoying little turd does not make it less annoying; usually only more.

Are you giving her her you time? She needs that you know. Cut out some time throughout the day to play with her and give her the attention she needs/deserves. Get a lazer pointer or and toys you can play with her with. My cat will stop at nothing to get to me. If i am busy and she needs her time she will continuously keeo trying to get in my lap or right up to what I am doing. Try giving her some time with you, you know like playtime/cuddletime.

Maybe try getting another cat for companionship, maybe she is lonely and just wants another friend. Cats can be very very funny creatures at times. My cat is 6 years old and still plays like he is a kitten. He also snores when he sleeps, which makes it sound like another person is in the room (and I am not joking). Maybe the biting is love bites? or even maybe she wants to play.

To me, this sounds like she is trying to tell you something, especially so since you state that the instant you pet her she tries to bite your hand and takes off running.
When she did so have you followed her?
Mine either meows or she comes and bites my ankles and then runs away. She does that to get my attention and leads me either to her bowl or to show me where she has deposited a dead mouse. Other cats I had before her did likewise.

Sounds like she wants attention when she wants it, and only to her standards! Hold her as much as possible to gain her trust, and when she feels more secure, maybe she'll hush up. I have one who just likes to talk and talk, tell me about his day I guess!
