speech recognition not working?

I have a language bar which shows english(us)m mic tools, ?, but no dictation, voice, or other buttons, no blue bar when i speak, mic does work..running windows xp

That's not what it's for.

It's there to allow you to switch your keyboard from one input language to another. I only speak English so I turned mine off.

If you want to do Voice Recognition, in Help & Support, type it into the Search box.

you must first see that the device is compatible or not.
but the xp recognises the device automatically
so install it again and restart the computer it will work
