Yes. They showed it. The police came to the house and told Betty. Betty went to the school to tell her sister. Sister fell down crying.
I will admit that the first episode this year was a surprise. Had me going.

Hilda broke down crying when Betty found her @ Justin's school musical. That strongly suggested her boyfriend died because if he had been injured, Hilda would have rushed to his side instead of completely breaking down in tears in Betty's arms.
