ford of any kind? don't you people do any research. the longer you people buy them the less likely that ford will make any improvements on their trannys. i ran a transmission shop here in portland oregon for 10 years retiring about 2 years ago and just before i retired i did a 5 year study regarding what vehicles we did the most replacement or major repairs on and 77% were fords and ford trucks and mercs. for gods sake you ford fanatics wake up and smell the coffee... ford makes the absolute worst transmission in the industry. when all of the other manufacturers average 1 in 500 or above that need major transmission repairs ford averages 1 in 150. better think twice about buying any ford product. just the facts folks just the facts!

If what you say is TRUE then you should be happy for people buying Fords as they kept you in business. As for the rest of whatever your blabbering BS the ONLY thing I have to say is C6!!! the MOST dependable strongest transmission ever made.

I doubt your little "study" was very good. Ford doesn't "make" all transmissions for their cars and trucks. They buy some of them from companies like ZF Friedrichshafen, and Transmission Technologies Corporation. Others are designed by Ford but made by other companies to be put in Ford products. Fords most recent automatic known as the 6F was designed together by GM and Ford. It comes in these vehicles for GM: 2007 Saturn Aura XR, 2007 Pontiac G6 GTP, 2007 Saturn Outlook, 2007 GMC Acadia, 2008 Buick Enclave, 2008 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ (LY7 V6 Option), and these vehicles Ford: 2007 Ford Edge, 2007 Lincoln MKX, 2008 Ford Taurus, 2008 Ford Taurus X, 2008 Mercury Sable. So maybe you should think twice about buying a GM, with the same transmission. You probably like some foreign piece of crap though, because your a grease monkey, not an engineer, so that is all you can afford. It's surprising that you've owned a shop for 10 years, since you don't know anything about transmissions. Maybe you should stick to the type of "trannys" you do know about.

Depends...I will agree on some of the transmissions out there like the ones in the 2002 Explorer and some earlier Taurus models....

Most coming in from trucks have been used and abused more than what they were designed to do.. yeah the mods fix some Ford issues.... But I've heard all kind of stories about all the other makes including the 30,000 mile Silverados a few years back (won't make 30 k with out a tranny from GM)

But also this 5 year survey at ONE shop..I'd like to see say 5 shops and then we can argue about it...

Anything in this world that is not PROPERLY maintained naturally it is going to break down. That is including your human body. Yes, Ford may have their faults. Maybe Ford owners do as well. I know a man that has just about every kind of vehicle out there, but a Ford. Everything he has had ever own has had MAJOR, MAJOR repairs or is in a junk yard somewhere. My uncle had like a 198X Toyota pick up truck, my aunt had her son's Camaro, then a Pontiac something, and other things before than. Today this day, they have a Ford Ranger, Aerostar, and Windstar. Each probably have 100,000 miles or more. They made MULTIPLE trips in the vans. My cousins have Fords. None of their vehicles have ever had MAJOR work done. My cousin's Explorer had a transmission problem. It was her ex-husband's fault.
I had a Ford, NEVER had one single problem out of it ever. Although there was one problem. Partly blamed on Ford, and the County. There was a flooded road, and without warning I was stuck in water. Which that caused engine damage. Now I own another Ford. I just got it too. Overall it seems like a wonderful vehicle. I have DROVE just about everything out there.
My dad owns a 1999 GMC Sonoma and it has been in the transmission shop for repairs, replacements, and rebuilds. One transmission shop said the Chevrolet S-10, and GMC Sonoma transmissions were their top fix.
There isn't a RICE BURNER out there, that I would want, or that you could give to me over a Ford.

I do not really know what your question is, but just to comment to your ford bashing.

1. I am 43 yrs old.

2. I have owned somewhere between 15 to 20 fords, ranging from Ford Pinto, f-150,Taurus, Mustang, Escape, Fairmont, Ranger, Torino, Escort.

3. Number of Transmissions serviced- 1, which I ripped out by running the hell out of it when I was 16.

4.I love Ford Bashers. Please go buy a rice burner and leave us alone.

In every major report on vehicle reliability Ford ranks signifcantly better than GM and Chrysler, and nearly as good as Toyota and Honda. I do my research, and buy Ford products.

My Ford truck has 120,000 and has been thouroughly abused with off roading, heavy loads, and trailers. Yup, it's still on the original tranny and runs like a dream.

I will have to admit, I did have one Ford that had early transmission trouble. It happened at only 235,000 miles. All the rest have never failed at all. I was thoroughly put out with Ford about it. The dang thing was just barely broken in right.
I rebuilt the trans, and it has been ok for another hundred thousand so far...I know because it is still in the family. And still the original engine, at 335k. So enjoy your non-Ford brand, and I'll stay happy with my Fords.

AXOD = POST (Pile Of S#!t Tranny) I agree with you. My shop sees at least 1 ford transmission every week if not more. Once we rebuild them and make the updates needed for them we are lucky to see the transmission again. My AXOD is now 175K from the last rebuild and still running strong. Of course we put in heavy duty clutch packs, RV bearings, and change the valve body for better lubrication. but they are bullet proof once we are done with them. Keep the fluid changed in them every 30K like the book says and you never have another problem with them. 220K on my 96 Taurus now. Still runs strong. but I agree. Ford let the problems with the AXOD Transmission go on far too long.
