20 years ... that's not a typo. He was (IS!) worth the wait.

I am still looking, but it depends on the breed and size. If a breed is every pound/spca then chances are when you look for the dog at the pound sometimes you will find it right then. What breed and size is the dog you want?

It took me to get my first dog. When I was 8, we got a blue heeler pup, and we bonded like sisters over the next few years. We had her put down a few months ago. :(
She was 16 and had a good life. I miss her so much. She was my perfect old doppy lady! :)

I don't look for dogs or look at compatibility based on breed or size. It's like dating, sort of. If theres a connection when I meet the dog, a good, strong connection, then I know it's the one for me. Men, however, are much more difficult and I don't suggest this methood for finding a good one of those.

my "perfect" dog fell into my lap when i was 13 yrs old. he and his littermate were 1 week old (the whole litter of ten was left at the vets office where my cousin worked). our family raised them, and i begged to keep the one with the "piggy nose".
he's now 10 yrs old and i couldnt have asked for a better dog (he's a shepherd mix <3 )

About 2 months.
We knew what breed we wanted so that was half the battle.Finding one with markings like one my husband had years ago that was smaller than our cats so they'd not be intimidated by it was another story.

About a week. I went to the pound, the spca, looked in the paper, on petfinder.com, etc. But it was at the spca that Jackie made eye contact with me, didn't bark, and we connected. It's been 6 mos. now and we just love her to pieces!

The last four dogs I have had found their way to me. They were all rescues in one way or another.
I never looked.
To me, they were/are all perfect in their own way.
