I bought a Radio Shack 3 in 1 remote and I got my tv and vcr programmed to it, everything works fine for the tv and it turns on the vcr and does the play, stop, rewind ect and turns on the menu but it won't let me go up or down through the menu items to change the language or set the time.

A remote usually has several codes that you can use for a particular device. Most of these codes won't work, and some will only access part of the functions, but one of them will allow complete control. Try using a different code in your remote.

That said, sometimes remotes simply don't have all of the correct codes in them, especially if the VCR is a new model and the remote is a few years old. It seems like, every time you buy something new, you need a new remote to get it to work with all of your other stuff.

thats the major drawback of these universal remotes, sometimes they don't match up perfectly. Even if the remote has arrows, sometimes the volume up/down or channel up/down adjusts the menu. Have you tried all of the different codes in the manual? some work better than others. You should be able to use the buttons on the TV itself to make these adjustments, they sound like a one-time function. If you purchase a 3-in-1 universal direct from th TV manufacturer, you shouldn't have this problem.

Good Luck
