i just read a book called "The Best little Girl in the World" and near the end, there was a girl in treatment who bragged a lot about being so thin and the best "anorexic" this same girl was caught using some sort of stick that - i think - would put air into your stomach and make you throw up. what are those sticks called?

(i wanna write a story about eating disorders and just had a question about those lil stick things)

Do you mean a Nasogastric tube (normally referred to as NG tube)? Doctors use those to assist patients in breathing (you'll see them used a lot on Scrubs and ER when a lung is collapsed or something). Those can be used to shove into the stomach instead of the lungs, technically.

I've never heard of those sticks, but people who induce vomiting after eating are called bulimics, not anorexics. The difference is that bulimics binge and purge, whereas anorexics simply don't eat. Both are eating disorders that can affect the health seriously, and even be fatal, and are caused by a distorted body image where people think they are overweight, when actually they are in a starvation mode. Therefore, they refuse to take nourishment for fear of getting fatter. It is much more common in females, especially young women. That's about all I know on the subject.
