is anybody on Zoloft. i was taking this anti for post natal depression 5 years ago, and it totally spaced me out, then i started taking it again 6 months ago, and i am totally confused on it. I thought its supposed to help me, but all it does, is make me crazier, more docile, and anti-social.
Is anybody having an dramas with this drug, is there something better?

I started taking Zoloft for depression while I was dealing with panic attacks. It made them WAY worse. I could hardly get out of bed while taking this medication. I called a family friend who is a psychiatrist and he said that during the first few weeks on Zoloft, it can actually make you have worse symptoms than you had before. My doctor did not tell me this when he prescribed it to me. I got a prescription from my family friend for Lexapro and have been on it ever since. It works well for my depression and anxiety and I don't have that "out of it" feeling that I have experienced before. I know medications work differently with different body chemistries, but if Zoloft is not making you feel well, I would definitly talk to your doctor about it. Lexapro has helped me ALOT.
My friend who is the psychiatrist also told me that Zoloft is being pushed on the family practice doctors with incentives from the company, so that could be another reason you were prescribed it. Check it out. Hope you feel better soon, I know how you feel. :)

I've never had any problems with zoloft, and its frequently used for social anxiety, so I wouldn't think it should make you anti-social, but side effects can vary from person to person. How much are you on, and did you gradually go up in dose, or start at a high dose?
If zoloft isnt helping you though, just tell your doctor. There are many other drugs that they can try, from other ssri's like prozac, snri's like cymbalta, and other classes of drugs as well. So, if its not working, just say something and get put on something else.

Hi... i took zoloft and it worked well for me.
The problem with asking others how a medication worked for them is that we are all individuals and medications work differently for each of us, hon.
Just because zoloft helped me, doesn't mean it's going to be great for you.
Tell your doctor any time a medication is making you feel odd, or isn't working properly. It's YOUR body, and there are a lot of alternatives.
I wish you all the best and hope you feel much better soon.

Since this drug doesn't work like it should for you CALL YOUR DOC AND TELL HIM. Your doc has no clue that this is happening to you if YOU don't call and tell him. When a med is not helping or is causing problems it is up to you to let the doc know so he can change your med. THere are tons of other meds out there and you will have to work at finding one that DOES work right for you. No one drug is better than the other as it is WHATEVER drug works best for YOU. Call your doc first thing tomorrow and update him on your problems.

I was on it for about a year a few years ago and it did nothing for me. I didn't have any negative side effects, it just didn't do anything at all. Since then, I've been on Lexapro (very helpful to me) and Effexor (also very good for me). You've got to talk to your doctor and try something else if you need to be on medication.

this med is obviously not agreeing with you,go back to the doc and he may want to try another med,the only prob i had with zoloft was gaining weight,i lost the weight once i went off it,and once i went off it,i got terrible head spins for 2 weeks, must've been some side effect.

Zoloft made me sleepy all the time and made me gain 40 lbs in six months. It's a very intense SSRI...talk to your doctor about trying a milder one, like Lexapro.

I took it for a period of time a few years ago and I didn't notice any difference in the way I felt so I quit taking it. I guess it affects different people in different ways.

There is something better, and it's called "dealing with life on life's terms."
There are literally thousands of drugs out there for hundreds of different diagnoses, and most of them are completely unnecessary. The mental health profession is a BUSINESS, and "repeat customers" are the 'bread and butter' of that business.
I would suggest dealing with someone that doesn't prescribe drugs, but rather helps you to identify the things that trouble you and helps you to understand and deal with them.
