I'm a good speller, and I think the way that happened is from reading a lot. The more you see the words spelled out correctly, the more likely you are to remember how to spell them later.

Read a lot. Books, magazines, etc. Mark all the words you don't know and look them up. That's the only thing that will help you recognize patterns in the way English is spelled.

If you have trouble spelling in other languages, you may have dyslexia. Go to a doctor and they can do a simple spelling/reading test to find out.

I have to admit that I'm a super duper poor speller regardless if it is Chinese or English or Japanese.

To brush up my spelling, I read quite a lot of books and one book stood up from the rest by say

"Have you ever wrote your name wrongly?

No?

Why?

It is because you are virtually writing your name almost every other day"

Good Vocab can be brush up by read but spelling (unfortunately) can only be brush up with repeated writing.

What I recommend you to do is PRACTISE.

There's no other choice without going through the continous writing.

What I do is to go through the vocab and find those words that I always have problem with. Then taking out a writing pad, I would write the words continously.

Initally, you will make a lot of mistake in spelling but as times goes by, you will realised that your spelling mistake will drop and the word will automatically flow into your mind.

After all,

PRACTISE MAKES PREFECT. (Oops i mean Perfect)

The way to do it is to look at each word as a symbol instead of a word. If you can memorize it that way, it is easier to spell words. Another thing that works for me is to sound out words, not necessarily as they're pronounced but how they're spelled. You can do that any way you want as long as it works for you.
