My computer has been acting funny lately. Sometimes I will get one pop up and even if I am not on a site, maybe like 3 times a week. Then once in awhile my cd-rom tray just opens on its own, sometimes it sounds like its going to open and the light goes on but it doesnt open. Sometimes my computer will freeze for a few seconds for no reason even if I am not on a site. I did a scan with AVG, Mcafee, Antivir, and nothing. I also scanned in safe mode and turn off system restore and nothing. I had something almost similar once and it was a trojan, found it, and deleted it and move on.
Do you think I have a trojan or something else? If I do what can I do to get it out bc the scans are not working.
Thanks.

Yes that sounds like a Trojan to me. The best thing for you to do would be to do a clean reinstall of your OS and then get the most up to date virus proctection as well as a good firewall!

If you're hoping that an antivirus software package is going to find a trojan, you've missed the mark.

The evil codings that plague the ubiquitous Microsoft Windows family of operating systems are far more vast in type than mere viruses.

To successfully guard your Windows-based computer, you must run scans with a robust antivirus software program, it's true. But you must also use such programs as SpwareBlaster, Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware, etc.

Also, if you insist on using Internet Explorer rather than a third-party Web browser, you need to disable ActiveX; limit JavaScript's abilities to open windows, resize windows, and move windows; and configure (make more secure) other options in Internet Explorer's configuation settings.

Also, you should be using a decent firewall — ZoneAlarm at the very least.

If you're using a modern version of Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista), have a look at the Event Viewer and read the logs for the events listed there.

Get the Crap Cleaner (ccleaner) and check out the "Startup" examiner that ccleaner offers.

So many free solutions to protect and clean your Windows-based computer are available on the Internet. Take an hour and research this subject on Google, AltaVista, Yahoo Search, etc. It's astounding how many folks are clamoring to help Windows users to protect their computers at no charge.

Also, go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and let them scan your computer for malicious software. You can look at the scan results and track down problems which, if you're clever, you can use other tools to clean up for free.
