My cat is about 3 years old (human years) and a few months ago we noticed that around her body she has quite a lot of scabs. They're mostly under her chin and around her head, sometimes on her body as well. Is this just from overscratching or flea bites, and if so, what can I do to stop this?

It may not be fleas at all. It could be from dry skin. She also could be having an allergic reaction to yes, her food. Seek a vets opinion.

Yeah it probably is from fleas. Comb her (preferably with a flea comb) and have a look at the fur on the comb - see any black flakes/specks? These are flea dirts.

Get a proper treatment from a vet, i.e Frontline, Advantage or Revolution. This stuff works, just make sure you get it right on your cat's skin, not on her fur, and she'll be protected against fleas for at least a month.

Don't use the equivalent cheap stuff from stores, because it doesnt work, that's why it's cheap.

If you're noticing something odd about your pet, you should go see a vet. Because you don't know if it's because of fleas, or a allergic reaction. If you THINK it's fleas, then you administrate medication/cream/shampoo/etc, it could get worse if it wasn't actually fleas in the first place. For your cat's well being, I also suggest seeing a vet.

Regular combing with a fine tooth comb. Daily. Apply a drop of tea tree oil between the shoulder blades where she can't lick it and put on a flea collar!
The areas you describe cannot be licked clean by a cat - think about it - so fleas congregate here!! If you find just specks of dirt put them in water. If it's flea poop it will turn the water blood red because it is digested blood. From your cat!

If she is an outdoor cat, she most likely has flea bites. Put Advantage on her to protect her from fleas.Fleas can make a cat anemic and cause tape worm.If she is scratching that much she must be miserable. Please take care of this.

Think cats can get eczema and other skin conditions, just like us hair free apes. Vet sounds the best bet, but could try lotions and potions to relieve moggy.
Dont try human ones though, in case hair falls out or something (even though they are probably tested on animals first).

Well, check her for fleas if you're not sure. Go see a vet!
