If your doctor has ever given you a short, stiff "punch" over the kidney area on either side of your back just below the ribs, you've had a renal punch test. If you feel pain with the "punch", it indicates a kidney problem such as infection.

It is a indicator of kidney infection or pylonephritis. The patient sits on the table and a light 'punch' with a closed fist is given by the provider to the back of the patient at the kidney area in the costovertebral angle. It will cause pain to be a positive result. (I am a PA-C. It may sound like a 'biopsy' term, but it is not)

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.
They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!
This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.
It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

nope. i had a renal ultrasound last week and they specifically told me no children allowed. while i was waiting on my appointment i heard them telling another mom the same thing once they noticed her 3 kids waiting with her. she told them the kids were the ones having the ultrasounds and i did see them in another waiting area and even then the mom had to wait outside with the other kids.

it is basically a biopsy of kidney tissue, taken with a large bore needle. The test is used to diagnose a wide range of kidney problems, you would need to ask the doctor exactly what he is looking for.
