I have to disagree with everyone. I want everything on the day to be fresh and new...and so does my fiance.

I think if youre on a certain budget then get one. Why not? So many people go out & spend tons of money on a materialistic wedding gown for show off reasons. You are getting married & your gown doesnt represent your love. If you see a nicely used dress that you like wear it & be happy. You only wear it for one day no need to impress others. Btw I dont believe in bad luck either. Also not all used gowns are cheap some people still want top notch $$ depending on the value of the gown. Davids bridal or house of brides always has clearance events going on, i've seen $99 gowns. Dont stress it get what you can afford, its better than starting off in a new marraige in debt from an over spent wedding!

Used gowns are only cheaper in certain situations. It's not cheap to rent a wedding gown, it can be anywhere from $200-$400 for the rental. That does not included alternations, if they are allowed. Often, you can't alter a rented gown. So, if it doesn't fit perfectly, then you need to find another that does.

Personally, I would prefer to own mine. I don't like wearing clothing that someone else I don't know has worn. I'm fine with friends and family; but I don't know where clothing has been when I rent it. It's just a personal thing.

Plus, I would like to alter my dress. So, renting isn't an option.

I'm personally against it, b/c it takes the "tradition" out of a wedding. You are suppose to have a new dress.

Plus, wedding dresses can cost as little as $350 from David's Bridal. That's not expensive at all. I would rather spend $350 and be able to keep the dress; then to waste $200 on something I have to give back.

I don't think wearing a used gown is gross at all. Of course, you would want to have it cleaned.

Ebay has lots of "vintage" gowns. I just love looking at those ones. If they were made today, many of these would cost thousands of dollars. They are absolutely beautiful, made with very elegant satin and laces.

As far as bad luck. No, that is superstition. But...if you believe in that...that's the reason I would go with a 1950s vintage gown from Ebay.....good karma with those dresses. Many of those people are still living now and have been married 50+ years!!!

And, yes, used gowns are cheaper. If you don't want to buy off of Ebay, you can always check second hand stores and thrift stores. But, you should check Ebay. Some gowns on there go for $10!! and they are beautiful!

Hi. This can be a tough one really.....
Don't scrimp on your dress, because you "supposed" to only do it once, and you don't want to wish you had done it differently.... But also remember ..... it is only a dress and only a day.
I got married 12 years ago, and if I called 10 of my guests and asked them what my dress was like, I'd be suprised if anyone would remember.

When I got married I thought, no, I'm going all out, and buying whatever I like and don't care how much it costs.....
Now (12 years down the track) I think of what we could have used that $3500 for (a honeymoon? part of a house deposit?)... I have got a $3500 wedding dress in my robe, that I am never going to use again!. What a waste.

I would go secondhand in hindsight, they are a 1/4 of the price, and if you look around you can get some stunning s/h dresses (no-one will know unless you tell them anyway!). Just make sure the dress really suits you, and remember, people only remember the bride if she looked terrible or the best she has ever looked, and the wedding if there is a drama about it. (like a friend of mine whos' priest was drunk at 11am & couldn't remember their names!!)......

Good luck and enjoy the preparations and the day!, (as well as your life together!)

Go for it. Used dresses are often much cheaper and if you have a paticular style in mind that is quite expensive this is a way of making it more affordable. I don't think any object can carry bad luck unless you let it, anyway wouldn't it be lucky that you found the perfect dress so cheap! Most wedding dresses have been drycleaned before the owner sells them so anything gross has been removed.

There are so many women that got stuck with their wedding gown after a failed engagement. Perhaps her bad luck will be your good luck!

There is a huge market for gently used wedding gowns and it could save you so much money. Think past the history of the dress-it's NEW to you!

Good luck!

I think it is fine. You can get it cleaned, so not gross. Bad luck is often precipitated by one's actions, or totally random, so I don't see how saving a ton of money on a dress you will only wear one time can cause bad things to happen. You can find them at yeard sales, int he classified ads, on eBay, theknot, or craigslist. Some have never been worn. My neice has a new one for sale now that was never worn, these things happen. So you should be able to find a deal. If it were me, I wouldn't care who knew my dress came from a thrift store. If it bothers you, then just tell people it's from David's or some bridal fashion store. After all, it was, originally!

I think if you are on a budget it is a great idea. Or even if you don't want to spend too much. It has only been worn once and is still as good as new. The person selling the dress makes back some money, you get a nice new dress for much cheaper. As long as you love it, no one loses!
