Is it because Jesus was a messenger on earth sent by God or was or the idea that you won't go to heaven if you sin? I'm just curious.

P.S. could you prove to me that Satanism or Buddhism is as valid as Christianity? How come atheists don't bash on other religions as much as Christianity?

god of the accursed, you are indeed the ignorant one. If you read the question correctly, I asked what is one thing you hate about religion. Not why do you hate it's existence. How about "What is the one thing you DISLIKE about religion?" Will that float your injudicious, dim-witted boat?

1.) Who ever said Jesus didn't exist, this is most likely incorrect. There is reasonable evidence to suggest that he did. Nevertheless, I can promise you he didn't do the mystical things he is claimed to have done.

2.) Why would Satanism be anymore valid to an atheist than Christianity? That's ridiculous.

3.) Buddhism IS an atheist religion that is much more valid than Christianity, because it is about self-enlightenment. While you most likely won't go to some magical place called nirvana, you will enhance your inner peace, and there is nothing wrong with that. They tend to make a lot less incredible claims that you are forced to believe to accept their religion. Still, it is not something I find necessary to believe to lead a good and prosperous life.

4.) Your question presupposes that "Jesus was a messenger on earth sent by God" and that God exists. So, why would one hate something that doesn't even exist? The same goes for heaven. Therefore, your question is leading and MISleading at that.

5.) Sin... I'll give you that one, but not because I care what "god" thinks. See I think that "sin" and morality are kind of similar, except sin deals with fake laws sent by a fake god, and some aren't even reasonable. However, there are some aspects to the idea of sin, like wrongdoing, that ARE reasonable. This is where morality comes in. If something is moral or immoral it should be able to be supported with logic. So, not everything about religion (Christianity in this case) is bad. So, like I said, I'll let you have that one.

All and all, the thing I personally hate about religion is the credit that it takes for accomplishment that came about through pure human will power. It undermines human's ability to reason. Humans, through reason, have come to the point we are today. We understood things were "wrong" or "good" because they made sense to us. We built civilization, because it was something that we willed so. Not because some magic man helps us do it. Religion deserves some credit as a "social organization" establishment, but it deserves none as a theist establishment.

I could go on down the list, but I think that is the one most important thing that I hate about religion.

You assume atheists hate religion, and that isn't necessarily true.
Atheists do not believe there is a god of any kind. The atheists I know simply don't bother with (and certainly don't hate) churches or religion.
Its like someone that doesn't eat seafood - that doesn't mean they hate Red Lobster or the fish market, does it?

As for bashing "organized religion", maybe Christianity gets the brunt of the bashing because it is the most intolerant, in-your-face, "you're going to hell" religion. None of the others are as vocal about converting the "heathens" (and none of them have the horrific history of mass murder of innocent native peoples to "save their souls"). And didn't Christianity condone and even encourage slavery in the 1800's - even though their bodies were enslaved, they would be forced to become Christians and that would save their souls (even while they were being sold, beaten, and killed).

Now, perhaps you meant agnostics. Agnostics believe that no one (not even the Church) can know the absolute truth about the existence of God.
So agnostics tend to avoid organized religion - why sit and listen to some priest when the agnostic knows the priest can't know the truth.

I hate the fact that you are supposed to live by the words of some guy from the distant past. Every religion was written by man, and I can't see living my life the way some other person sees fit. I believe in God, (I'm not an atheist, but I still like the question) but organized religion is just ridiculous. I think atheists bash Christianity because they are the ones who tell them they are wrong and are going to hell. You'll never hear that from a Buddist.

There is no "one" thing that I dislike about religion. Mostly, I dislike many of the practitioners of the Christian religion.

And generally, atheists only have to deal with Christians on a daily basis. I don't remember the last time Satanism or Buddhism caused me enough trouble to make me bitter. That probably goes a long way toward the fact that we tend to be the most argumentative with Christians.

In response to "FREQUENT fool," a true atheist does what they want. Not what you believe they will do, or what you USED TO do. No offense, but that's an extremely ignorant and, I suspect, intentionally inflammatory point of view.

I don't hate religion, I simply don't believe in god. Atheism doesn't mean "anti-religion" it just means non-belief in god... Hating religion is up to the individual.

Satanism and Buddhism are essentially atheistic beliefs systems.

I don't "bash" any religions, I don't think any one is above the other because In my eyes they're all false. But I will say that in my personal experience, most people of faiths other than Christianity have been much more understanding and non imposing than some Christians have been.

You sound sincere, so I'll try my best to give you a sincere answer.

We don't hate religion for any of the reasons you stated. We wouldn't have a problem with religion if religious people wouldn't commit such atrocities in the name of God. Also, Christians in the US are attempting to legislate the Bible.

In order to understand our world view, you have to imagine a world where Christianity sounds like utter nonsense to you, on par with Santa Claus or Count Dracula. Now imagine that people are wanting you to pledge allegiance to count dracula every day in school. Further, they want to teach dogma from that book as if it were science.

Respect is a two-way street. If you respect my beliefs, I'll respect yours. It is this egregious lack of respect for unbelievers that irks us.

As far as Satanism goes, we would criticize it if people were trying to shove satanism down our throats. In our view, Satanism and Christianity are equally silly because they both involve the worship of gods.

Buddhism differs to christianity in that it is a very inclusive religion. By that I mean that it doesn't claim that anyone who doesn't follow Buddha will go to hell. Further, in most forms of Buddhism, there are no gods worshipped. You could possibly believe in Jesus and Buddhism at the same time.

Christianity, on the other hand, is very exclusivist. They believe they are the only propreitors of truth. It is either their way or the highway (no criticism intended, just the way it is). Their attitudes, along with those of other exclusivist religions such as Mormonism and Islam, tend to create resentment in those that don't believe.

It is hard not resent somebody who thinks that you deserve to be tormented for all eternity for not believing in some silly detail in the afterlife.

I hope answered your questions. I tried to be as respectful as I could, while at the same time being honest.

My dislike for religion has nothing to do with Jesus. My research tells me in all probably Jesus Christ never existed anyway. What I dislike about religion most is that people get caught in the fantasy then they wrap themselves so tightly in their cocoon of ignorance afraid if they use logic they will lose that tiny piece of La La land of Eternity which is all they live for. If they let go of a single thought their boogie man Satan will jump out and take a bite of their butt. 1/3rd of the world is Christian. Other religions make very little difference. They all are nonsense.

I don't hate religion.
I feel quite pitiful about the lives of those who live as if planning for the next life. Quite foolish.
Then you make some 'statements' which need verifying.
Did JC actually exist? Or was it the retelling of the Ancient Egyptian Horus story?
Is there a heaven? You must know that there isn't.
Sin? Define sin.
Christians are the most proliferate on these pages. Can't remember the last time a Buddhist chimed in with nonsense.

People hate OUR religion (Christianity) because the truth hurts..Buddhist and satanism lies about everything and lets you live how you want to live and Christianity teaches the truth and you must be good and live a Godly life and people think if you become a Christian you cant have fun anymore well i can still have fun i still cut up and act crazy i just don't go out and sleep around stay drunk every night i read the Bible and I follow its commands but people have a hard time with following rules. that's why they hate religion but one day they will all be sorry if they don't change their beliefs..

The Bible tells us in the last days people will hate us because of Jesus but ya know what hate me i don't care long as Jesus loves me that's all i need..

The only thing I really hate about religion is the way that SOME try to force it upon others.

I am an atheist therefore all the stuff about Jesus and sin are totally irrelevant to me.

Pick your religion

For the purposes of this answer ‘Faiths’ are included in religions because the semantic word play will not be acknowledged.

Most religions claim they their book is divinely inspired.
Some actually claim it to be written by their god.
Most religions claim to be the true religion.
Most religions say that they have proof of their religion being the true one yet all the arguments are circular therefore invalid.
Because of this, all religions say it is about ‘Faith’ and following your heart.

So, because the above is true then all religions are equally valid.

Most religions claim to be the way of love and peace.
Most religions have killed to convert.
All religions are different but claim to have commonalities.

Therefore it follows that they must all be dilutions.
