I am an artist. I look to other artists to learn and grow from so that I can too, become a succesful artist. With that, I achieve everything I always wanted.

If you are willing achieve goals that Christianity teaches you, I would only assume you follow the footsteps of those who have achieved the things you need.

to understand that His sacrifice through His crucifixion, and that it restored the opportunity to have a personal relationship with God... is to understand that this is unnecessary... it would be like paying an admission fee when someone has already paid your way... unnecessary and pointless...

To experience the life of Jesus, you would have to back up time 2000 years and I haven't read of anyone inventing a time machine yet. As for your next statement of crucifying themselves, what good would that do ? You must think christians are retards who can not KNOW pain, suffering or death. Belief never "robs" anyone of the REALITIES of this world and being sarcastic about someone's beliefs only makes "you" the underdog in all you said.....

http://www.kingdom-gospel.com/disciple.html

Luke 14:27 "Whoever does not carry his own cross...cannot be My disciple."

The cross that each of us must carry must be like Jesus' cross. It isn't sickness or disease. It is not self inflicted. These were not Christ's cross. It is a denial of self (see above). It is choosing to lose, and let it (self) be broken (Math 21:44). It is of God's design, not man's or self's. Although God may use man or your own self, emotions, or other things or people to bring it about.

Isaiah 1:19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land

If the prior qualification spoke of obedience, this speaks of willingness. Jesus, Himself, prayed 3 times in Gethsemane to have the "cup" removed unless it was God's will. It takes prayer and help to do this at times. Jesus asked 3 disciples to pray with Him in that hour. Even Jesus needed help in carrying the cross:

Luke 23:26: And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.

We need to help each other:

Galatians 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

It is not too difficult:

Math 11:
29: Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30: For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

They did in the early church. Early Roman writers were caught off guard how willing Christians were to be martyred. They would actually turn down less extreme punishment so that they could be killed for their "beliefs".

The Mel Gibson obsession with martyrdom has been around for a long time.

Crucifying people also went out of style a long time ago.

Because we look at it as he was crucified FOR us so we can live as christians. The wanting to be closer to Jesus is really more of a want of understanding of Christ, not killing ourselves to go say "sup Jesus".

I would gladly be crucified. But the real question is would you be willing to crucify me? It would be kind of hard nailing my hands and feet all by myself and then erecting the cross with all my limbs inaccesible and bleeding profusely.

Jesus could not even crucify himself.
Obviously you haven't walked in 'death to self" for the sake of Jesus living through you or you wouldn't even say that.

I'm glad that your question reflects the intellectual integrity of the Atheistic community. It is questions like this, that make me glad to have switched from being a staunch Atheist to a faithful believer in Christ.

They do it in the Philippines but they don't do it to the point of death. Opus Dei uses pain to help move closer to the sacred but neither of these examples are mainstream.
