Do you mind if I answer for my parents? They made it clear, growing up, that they would choose the organization. I lived in terror of ever needing a blood transfusion, because I knew they would never allow it, even if it meant I would die. I felt like a second-class citizen in my own home at all times. My needs, wants, and very life were all secondary to the Watch Tower. They still are, because my parents have nothing to do with any of us kids or our children, or other "worldly" relatives. The Watch Tower claims to support strong family unions, but nothing is further from the truth. My parents have never even MET their grandchildren, who are all in their late teens now.

The question is not child over religion.
The question is your child before or ahead of God?
Would Jesus place his mother above God?
Would Jesus have disobey his Father to save his Mother?
Jehovah's Witnesses do not have a 'religion' we have a relationship with our Heavenly Father.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not have a 'religion' we have a way of life.
Who would you trust to give the best care of your child?
Man or God?
The bible is very constant in the use of Blood.
If you were dying in the desert and the only thing to drink was blood, would you disobey God and drink?
Would you make your child drink?
Drink blood or die, the only two choices you have.
Would you save your soul to lose it? That is would Jesus said?
One person claimed their mother died faithful,
What a day of sorrow it will be when she finds out her child didn't remain faithful.
If a parent lets their child die for their country the parents and the child are heros.
If a parent remains faithful to God and their child dies, the parents are terrible.
Talk about a double standard. Serve man be a hero.
Serve God and be murder.
Thank you for letting get on my soap box.

What do you mean? Some of the answerers think you mean the issue of blood. I don't 'see' that in your ?, so could you elaborate? TeeM & Paul S gave it up decent & right. And besides, in the Bible, Jesus said we are not to put anyone or anything ahead of God. Nothing ahead of God. In the Bible Jesus said that he came to cause division. Some will accept the message of God's Kingdom some won't. Then it is the word of truth that causes division, not the fact that a person choose his relationship with God, FIRST, as we are TOLD TO DO!!

I follow the bible strictly so I will let it talk for you.
"You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart."-MARK 12:29, 30."
Deuteronomy 32:4 "The Rock, perfect is his activity, For all his ways are justice.A God of faithfulness, with whom there is no injustice;
Righteous and upright is he."
John 5:25-29 "25 "Most truly I say to YOU, The hour is coming, and it is now, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who have given heed will live. 26 For just as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted also to the Son to have life in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to do judging, because Son of man he is. 28 Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment."

According to the bible, children are a gift from God. God has their best interests at heart, if they chose to disobey Him, that’s too bad.
Can you ask that question to Abraham, who God asked to sacrifice his only son Isaac? Funny how God called Abraham his friend?
Did God put us before his son?
Does God have the power to raise people back to life?
The keyword in that question really is: do you have enough faith in God and his word?
On the issue of my child "needing" blood, if anyone asked me whether I will put the child first or the bible (Acts 15:28, 29) I'd say that I want the doctor to do his best to find an alternative (plenty of which exist) and get the best surgeon for the job. Jehovahs Witnesses are human, they care just as much for their children as anyone else does.
Abstaining from blood originated from the bible not the WTBS.
If a Jehovahs Witness did accept blood, they would not be immediately thrown out the church; the elders would consider the case with compassion just like any other case where a member sins. They would consider all the circumstances before making a decision.
Used to be... PediC - You said: "as for Heiss' statement above about Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac, well, that was a DIRECT request from God, not a request of a group of men at the synagogue. I can't imagine Abraham sacrificing his son for the WBTS, in light of their wishy washy doctrine. Is the WBTS saying they're the mouth of God?"
What do you think the bible is? Just a book of fairy tails that we can pick and chose from? The command to abstain from blood is not what the WBTS made up, it's from the word of God, AKA the Holy Bible - Acts 15:20, 28, 29. Twice the apostle Paul mentioned that along with other things, blood MUST be abstained from. He received that guidance from the holy spirit, is that not God speaking DIRECTLY to him?

I would choose my child. Anyone can do something religious, i.e. I religiously wake up @ 6:30 am for work, or I religiously work out three times a week. Religion is something that you do - holy or not. If you had said 'God' that would be different. The way people view religion is skewed.

I don't see how that would ever be an issue. If I ever do have children, my beliefs, they would help me in raising the child. One of the most endearing things about Jehovah is the loving way he teaches parents to care for children.
If I was involved in something that I felt was threatening to my children, I would choose them first and foremost.
I didn't know Peddi and Goat considered themselves Witnesses, how odd, I mean surely they wouldn't answer a question directed to a group they weren't apart of. Never taken Lithium, guess again Jabbers.

TO be honest do other religions choose for there children too, not according to my knowledge, children grow up being taught by there parents what ever religion they are in, "BUT" it is when the child is of an age to choose for them selves what they want to do, as for being given the choice of choosing i would choose both, as physically we are their parents and we are to take care of them and spiritually we feed them what they should learn the truth, in order to make their lives better. Jehovah's Witnesses are the only religion that put the Bible in to practice therefore living better lives who in their right mind s would not want that for their children. look around you, all other religions more or less send their into war or war zones, OR they welcome their child's choice to go and join ranks as to kill their fellow man in battle what kind of parent is that. as the Bible clearly states thou shalt not murder. Jehovah's Witnesses value life so it would be understandable that they would choose both as one needs physical contact IE love from their family's and the other a spiritual contact as that will bring them closer to their heavenly Father Jehovah.

I assume you mean the blood issue.
By following gods word the bible, then you are choosing your child's interests .
If you mean the child tells you to leave your faith or they will leave home or won't talk to you , then it's bye as my children can not offer what god can.

Jehovahs Witnesses will sincerely tell you that they will obey the word of God because in the long run it is in the childs best interests. I am assuming that most of them would understand this question to mean God rather than religion. However, I beleive it would have been more pertinent to ask them whether they would choose their child over the words of a body of imperfect men, not one of which is amongst the 'anointed' or even consult the anointed when dishing out their edicts. I am also assuming that you are refering to the blood issue here as it seems to be topic of the week. If you are, 99.5% of them will say they will choose to obey Gods (governing body's) word. I wonder how many chose to obey the word of the governing body when they banned vaccinations for thirty years, and how many of those children suffered needlessly or even died, all on the say so of Gods so called 'spirit anointed' representative?
