I am going to disagree with the census info.

While they might be right about the 9.5 million over 65 the 24 million mark has to be low. 9.5 million were on active duty from 64-75 alone. Total force thru the Cold War was around 3 million. If you average a full turn on that every 3 years, bring that down to 2 million from 94 to now I will guess somewhere between 35 -50 million.
