Question

Is this COT mess all cus of Chevys stop to the Monte Carlo? If not why'd they change it? I liked the Monte Carlo but I also like the Impala, my parents have an impala 2007 model

So did they do the COT because they had to go to impala since the stop of Monte Carlo?

Some of the early history on the COT:

NASCAR Working on 'New Car': NASCAR is closer to a futuristic car that promises a safer ride for stock car racers and millions of drivers buying vehicles off the showroom floor. The fatal crashes in 2000 of Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin in New Hampshire and Tony Roper in Texas led NASCAR to reach out to the best engineers it could find, and the Dale Earnhardt accident threw the project into high gear. There have been plenty of crashes since, some serious, but no deaths. And if NASCAR's safety program keeps progressing as it has recently, the risks of deadly wrecks will keep going down. With the major car makers working on the program with NASCAR, it's a good bet that some of those safety features will wind up on street cars. Practically every part of the car is being examined for ways to make it safer. New high-tech materials - a foam aluminum that resembles a sponge; a honeycomb metal that looks as if it came out of a mutant beehive; steel designed to bend and crinkle on impact - are under investigation. Improved "crush zones" would absorb energy in a crash to protect occupants. Better collapsible steering wheels, changes in the location of the oil tanks; refined gas, brake and clutch pedals; a new generation of shock absorbers and tires that will make cars easier to control; systems to prevent fires or suppress them - they're all part of NASCAR's overhaul.

Take it from someone that has been on the inside of the fence at the track, no the COT did not develope because of Chevy dropping the Monte. The COT was developed in the intrest of driver safety, and cost cutting for the team owners.

Now as for why Chevy chose the Impala as opposed to the Monte....Country Boy is probably right.

Hey, Charles hit it right on...Nothing else to say..My friend just traded her Monte Carlo in for the Impala and she loves it.. I never saw many Monte Carlos on the road anyway, I see the new impalas every where.

Sales of the Monte Carlo (2 door) was poor.With poor sales come discontinuation of that model.So this begain the down fall,but NASCAR was already planning a "larger-more safe" car.Something simular to the cars of the 60's.Thus the COT was born.
Some modern styling and some of the geometry from the 60's and a lot of complaining.But the bottom line is the chance that restrictor plates are a thing of the past.
A car with safty features to protect our favorites as well as all the drivers.
Yes we are complaining but there is a good chance of better racing in the future.

Charles has a fantastic answer with the safety. And there
is another reason that nobody has stated yet so I will.
Aerodynamics, Before the CoT car there were slight
variations in the shape of the body to make them faster.
With the CoT there can be no variations (the Jeff and Jimmy
penalty) even between different makes of cars. So it puts
all of the cars on the same playing field, at least as far as
aerodynamics go. So now one manufacture can't complain
about another having an advantage in that area.

And as far as the 2 dr. vs 4 dr. I think that you are right about
sales. 4 dr. cars are easier for people to get in to and out
of. Esp. for families and people that have more than 2
people in it at a time. But I'm a child of the 60's and 4 dr.'s
were always out parents car and they were not cool. 2 dr.
cars were and also usually had better styling.

It's not really a Monte Carlo or a Impala, it just represents that model, they barely have any similarities to production models.

Yes they are all right. Let me add this: I bought a 2 door 2006 Monte Carlo just for me. I do not have children, and do not use the car to transport any more than 2 people. (Myself and one other person.) I like the styling, comfort and the whole shebang. I do not expect to be driving the 140 that the speedometer states, but it still is a nice ride.
If I am going to make payments of this car, I wanted to get what I wanted not someone else. Thanks

It has nothing to do with Chevy. NASCAR wanted a safer car that was less aero dependent and could be used at all the tracks. They created the COT.

Chevy stopped making the Monte because of the slow sales and they needed to shut down that plant it was built in so they could start to convert it over from the W-body platform to the new Zeta platform.

Here's the bitter truth (I'm a Chevy man). The two door Monte Carlo dad very poor sales levals because it was a two door model. Our local Chevy dealer said any two door model these days are a slow mover on the new and used car market market.

i think of the Camaro. The V8 Ford Mustang GT in basic terms packs 314hp mutually as the V6 Chevy Camaro has 304hp, and is critically greater much less costly, with the LS form commencing at $23,000. The V8 Chevy Camaro packs 426hp and a base SS will fee around $33,000, which i think continues to be greater much less costly than the GT. yet, that's purely me. i'd take a clean Camaro over a clean Mustang any day.
