This is vague since the Hebrew and Greek words translated as serpent are also translated as dragons elsewhere. Instead of a snake, the creature in the garden could have been some variety of a dinosaur.
Or it could have been a snake after all. We don't know. In the account the idea that God was cursing the snake by removing its legs is implied, but all that is said is that from then on the snake would crawl on its belly. This implies it moved in some other way before this.

I'm not sure, I've wondered the same thing. You have to also consider how many other things were altered after the fall too and how they must have been before it! Things were not tainted at all, no death, no destruction and no ageing, so it's hard to contemplate and imagine. The snake may well have been in a form that we'd be very surprised at. We can try and imagine it might have been more in the form of a lizard appearance, but again, this is only because we can't conceive something when we've not witnessed it as it was. This is why many will try and say it's symbolic, yet the bible is clear on the literal and the symbolic and the creation account for a believer, has to either be accepted, or they may as well ditch the bible altogether, as throughout the bible there are references to the story of creation, to that very event. Christ's whole point is because of the fall of man. So certainly if one believes in Christ, they must also believe in the first two humans who stuffed it up from the word go.

The Bible does not say. Much of the Bible is written in 'bound motif,' That means it gives few details, but the details given are important. Therefore, since it is not mentioned, God may deem it unimportant. God is not limited by physical laws. If God is powerful enough to create the whole universe, pulling the legs/flippers/wings/whatever off of a snake is not much of a challenge.
Evolutionists strain at gnats like this, but swallow the whole camel of evolution. They honestly believe everything (plants, bugs, animals, etc.) came from the sludge of a rock. They call it 'abiotic evolution.' When juxtaposed with creationism, evolution looks ridiculous. That is why they don't want balanced treatment in the science classrooms.

the Hebrew word for serpent is seraph. coincidentally, seraph also means angel in Hebrew. so it seems quite likely to me that seraph could mean angel. that would make a lot more sense. if a snake came up to you and started telling you to do stuff that god and his angels warned against i think that would kind of creep anyone out and they probably wouldn't listen very much. on the other hand if an angel, which Satan can impersonate, that looked very much like the ones god had been sending to give instruction ever since Adam was put into the garden, came and told you to do something you would likely believe that he came from god and was giving permission to to something that had been previously warned against. you would be a lot more likely to listen and do what he said.

According to Judaism, it was a man who walked upright on two legs, was extremely intelligent, was even a leader among his own kind -- yet lacked the higher level of soul that was given to Adam and Eve.
This earlier creation was part of a whole population of these beings, some of whom you hear about living in the land of Nod, and other places, and these are who Cain was worried about would kill him after he killed his brother Abel, so the Mark of God was put on his forehead to show he was protected.
EDIT: Brutus the word for snake in Hebrew is Nachash, not Seraph, in this context.

d) Bermoulli and Van der Waals Forces. They actually just hovered nanometers above the ground. And then god took it away. Either that, or they always crawled, and god didn't really punish them.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go feed my Jesus horse one metric ton of vegetation. C'mere Betsy!

I think he walked upright but kept his flippers available for swimming or just flipping someone off.
