I have recently gotten knee surgery and I have to take Tylenol 3...but it makes my stomach hurt. I've tried to take it with food, but it still hurts. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi- You need to contact ur Dr. and tell him about this issue. More than likely the codiene is making your stomach hurt. Please contact ur Physician. He can get you on another pain medication. You don't need this, along with the pain following ur surgery. Good luck and take care!

As a healthcare provider I can tell you that Tylenol 3 has codeine in it. That is what is upsetting your stomach. Some people cannot take this medication for this reason. Contact your provider and tell them......there is other pain medication that you could take that would be just as effective and without the upset.

The MG might be to high for your body try cutting the pill in half eat a meal and half way through it take the half. Hope this helps. another thing is eat bread itams and take it with a full glass of water. IF it works and the pain is still hurting then after about an hour take the other half with a peace of bread and a glass of water that is what i had to do.

I like Motrin (ibuprofen 800mg), I don't believe in Tylenol anything, it just doesn't do it for me.

My mother in law couldn't take it so the doctor switched her to another pain medicine without codeine because it aggravated her ulcers.

It does have that affect with some people. Make sure what you eat is something heavy to cover the effects..ie...bread.

other than that...can you ask the pharmacist what other things you can take?

Yes Vicodin works better and has less side effects. both are very addictive. Talk to your doc

call your doctor, there are other pain meds that are less likely to irritate your stomach.
