It does sound like panic disorder, and probably comes out when you are exercising because of the release of adrenaline along with endorphins. This is not uncommon, when the antidepressant gets the depression under control, the panic disorder that is masked by the depression comes out. I'll bet the Effexor is exactly what you need for the depression, but now you need to address the panic disorder. Personally, I saw a psychiatrist, and took classes in panic management. Glad I did. I take Effexor too, this happened to me too.

I took Effexor for several months and was very weak, nauseous and sick on it. I also couldn't walk much or go to the gym. I went from 125 lbs to 189 lbs and it took a long time after getting off it for my weight to start going back down. I'm still struggling to lose the weight it made me put on. I think you should ask your Doctor to switch you to wellabutrin, Paxil, Ativan or Clonazapam.

As long as you take it easy and make sure you listen to your body, take clues from how you feel as to when to stop. I would also let the gym know you are on medication so if anything were to happen, they can let the EMS know whats up. But, take it slow, and one step at a time. Lots of water, remember to breathe, and sit often if you feel dizzy/weak. If with time it still doesn't get better, talk to your doctor. There may be a better medication for you and your body. Good luck!!

That sounds an awful lot like panic attacks. Why would you have a panic attack every time you try to exercise? That's odd.
I've been on effexor for years at a time, and never noticed anything like that. Based on that, I'd rule out effexor as being the cause.
Talk to your psych next time you see him and ask about this side-effect.
Meantime, check out this resource for lots of info on everything our life is made of. Check out panic attack and see if that fits your exercise bug.

That's really weird.. it shouldn't happen. You need to talk to your doctor who prescribed you the medication about this. Tell him what's happening and that you are frustrated and upset. There are so many anti-anxiety/depression drugs out there. Maybe it's not the right one for you.
