A PREACHER ON THE FENCE

From out of the millions of the earth,
God often calls a man
To preach the Word,
and for the truth take a royal stand.
‘Tis sad to see him shun the Cross,
And not stand in its defense
Between the fields of right and wrong:
-A PREACHER ON THE FENCE-.

Before him are the souls of men
Bound for Heaven or Hell;
An open Bible in his hand,
And yet he will not tell
All the truth that’s written there,
It surely is an offence—
The joys of Heaven, the horrors of Hell—
-A PREACHER ON THE FENCE-.

Now surely God has called the man
To battle for the right.
‘Tis his to ferret out the wrong
And turn on us the light.
And yet he dare not tell the truth,
He fears the consequence.
The most disgusting thing on earth
-IS A PREACHER ON THE FENCE-.

If he should stand up for the wrong,
The right he’d not defend;
If he should stand up for the right,
The wrong he would offend.
His mouth is closed, he cannot speak
For freedom or against.
Great God deliver us from
-A PREACHER ON THE FENCE-.

But soon both sides will find him out
And brand him as a fraud,
A coward who dares not to please
The devil or his God.
Oh God, free us from fear of man,
From cowardly pretence;
And save us from the devils servant,
-THE PREACHER ON THE FENCE-.

wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree and see the Preacher on the fence every where I look
have yet to find a(world based) Church that I can attend regularly
because of this very thing
most churches avoid the teachings of homosexuality,abortion and many other things because they might offend some one heaven forbid that they lose a member because of the truth they have to keep their numbers up, so why not make every one happy and in doing so lead many down the road of destruction
if you don't mind I would like to copy/print this but I would need to know who wrote it, thank you
always nosnod

Amen to that. Most of those who call themselves preachers have NO business behind a pulpit!!!!

This is coming from one who has attended church regularly for over 25 yrs, and suddenly realized that I will NOT entrust my spiritual condition to people who have NO clue what God is doing today, and who DONT study their bibles the way God instructs us to....thereby mixing the programs and muddying the very waters we are to make CLEAR so that others can be saved.

Do you know how most people in the town where I live became preachers? Its usually on a hot day and theres alot of work to be done. Suddenly, they get a "calling"....I think I hear the Lord calling me to preach! Foooey on that.

Would you go to a doctor who had NO training? Thats like going to a pizza delivery guy for brain surgery...no? Wink

BEWARE...all that glitters is NOT gold, and a man can "call himself" a pastor, but if hes NOT preaching the plan and purpose of God for TODAY (found in Romans thru Philemon ONLY), then he should STEP DOWN!

I want a preacher with the audacity to tell me the truth, whether it is what I hoped to hear or not. I would rather be unsettled for a short while because of their honesty, rather than miserable for eternity because of their cowardice.

Hmmm no sorry. It doesn't sound familiar to this Christian. My pastor doesn't sit on the fence, he stands in the Gap and does some mighty spiritual warfare!

God bless you!

I have more respect for a preacher who says "I don't know - that's part of the mystery" Than one who espouses a canned theology.

Not familiar at all. But it sure hits a nerve. Romans chapter ten.

yup it does. i'm so tired of seeing pastors who claim that they teach the word of God, but in reality, they're leading astray all their sheeps.
