Its not too bad.

200mg day is a low dose, no doubt your having lots of nasty blood tests and your dose will be increased to the optimal level for you.

Lithium saves lives and is a very good mood stabiliser and it is usually used to treat more severe forms of Bipolar Disorder and sometimes intractable depression.

Hopefully, you will start to feel better pretty soon. The actual side effects are low if the blood-lithium levels are kept within range.

Some people get a little nausea and minor side affects like that but it should settle down.

There are long term side effects, so here in the UK, you will only be allowed to stay on lithium after 5 years if, on assessment, you continue to get benefit from it and your blood tests are normal.

Long term side effects that can occur with prolonged use include underactive thyroid, kidney problems, weight gain, hormone problems and a degree of cognitive impairment.

These long term affects - which occur in some, not all - are usually irreversable.

Lithium is a major drug therapy. Everybody who treats you must be told you are taking it and I strongly advise you carry a 'Lithium Card' at all times and/or a 'Medic Alert' bracelet.

The margin between theraputic and toxic blood levels of lithium are narrow, so your treatment has to be carefully managed.

Overdoses of lithium are very serious.
