most of them here get it from anti muslim sites that choose to "translate" the quraan literally the way they like far from the way all muslims study it to create a distorted image of islam.
most get their info from anti muslim media and the "experienceof others /friends of friends" or rather their imagination / hearsay which is more dependable in their view from just visiting a site from a muslim to see how muslims practice islam properly or visiting a local mosque and asking for brief info about islam.
the easiest way for them to find "dependable sources" is to find the words" muslims are evil, muslims are terrorists"
only a few have an abiased view, or even think that muslims are normal human beings who deserve to live and practice their religion freely.

sara, as I've noticed with other religions and their followers, some muslims provide answers here with great certainty to questions concerning their faith. Then, as in the case of a question I asked recently, some rude characters, like a guy named Dragon something, will post an ignorant insult that refutes what the others have said, demanding to know the source of my "misconceptions."

If Muslims offer an answer to a question in YA, and it isn't correct, or it differs from the rest, there's no way any non-muslims can know. We just go by what we read here in the answers. Some of us have read the quran and others have not. Answering, "Read the Quran," is not an "answer" to a question about Islam. It's faster to ask here.

I've read dozens of contradictions from Muslims in YA over the year. Apparently, like other religions, some believe one thing while others prefer to disagree with that belief. That's why non-Muslims ask questions in the Religion & Spirituality section. We're trying to get the answer.

Hope this clarified things.
:)

Sorry to say have not really been interested in any news stories or reports about Islam/Muslim nation or religion but listened to some Christians that have escaped, Yes escaped, from countries that are now Islam/Muslim majority and run are fearful & truthful tells that no civilized sociaty would work upon others just because of a difference in religious beliefs.

The Koran, a great book called "The Trouble with Islam", (all muslims should read that) and various news media sources.
The books "Infiltration" and "10,000 Years for Revenge" were
very enlightening too.
The Koran is an easy read, nothing like the bible. After reading it 4 times to really try to understand it, I threw it out.

I am currently reading the autobiography of Malcolm X (he just got his first "conk").

I have been trying to read the Koran, but so far I have found it to meander from story to story too much.
Instead I have been asking specific questions on Y!A and looking them up on the rare occasion that I actually get a reference.

That book could certainly use some redacting and some council meetings.

Muslims.
If I want to know about Yom Kippur, I ask a Jew.
If I want to know about Krishna, I ask a Hindu.
If I want to know about the Pentecost, I ask a Catholic.
If I want to know about Islam, I ask a Muslim.

By their fruits you shall know them. What would the world be like tomorrow if today every Muslim would to suddenly be taken up to their heaven? What would the world be missing in science, the arts, humanitary endevors, and wars?
