If you make trouble you are raising the accursed spirit of Cain. This is similar to several phrases that allude to calling-up or 'raising' the Devil. There's 'raise the Devil' of course and also 'raise hob' and 'raise hell'.

I think that's "raising Cain", referring to the son of Adam who killed his brother Abel; according to the book Genesis in the Bible.
Since this was the first murder, and a heinous one at that, "raising Cain" is used to refer to anything promoting chaos, disorder, and lawlessness. I'm not sure if "raising" is being used in the sense of strengthening, or of rearing (as a child).

Correct. Idolatry is divine worship given to an image, but its signification has been extended to all Divine worship given to anyone or anything but the true God. By definition, a Catholic praying before a crucifix to the true God or a Non-Catholic Christian praying before a cross to the true God is not idolatry. By definition, a Catholic asking a saint in heaven to pray for him or her in front of a statue of that saint is not idolatry. With love in Christ.
