Does any body know how long you have to wait to get a tattoo over a scar? Can the scar be fresh or do you have to wait a certain amount of time for it to heal first? Thanks for the help!

However long it takes for your scar to heal, which means it has to no longer be red or pink, but white.

Some people hyperpigment their scars (they turn brown) and that can mean it is not healed yet or just the final result as with darker skins.

Six months to a year is generally how long these transitions take but I have seen pink scars that are two years old that I won't work on.

I just talked to my tattoo artist about this because I'm having surgery on my arm that will leave a rather large scar. He said the longer you wait, the better it will be and he suggested a minimum of a year before tattooing over the scar.

i have 2 tattoos my self and yes before u cover your scar it must be completely healed first!! because a tattoo is applied by a needle with ink in it that must penetrate a layer or two so that the ink stays underneath the skin, so if your scar is not healed you could get an bad reaction(infection) from the foreign matter (the ink), not to add that it may be very painful, and make the scar even worst.

That scar tattoo seems painful. how are you able to deal with somebody reducing bits of your flesh off? Do they use anasthetic? ouchy wowow. i would not do it. perhaps i might do a small frequent tattoo yet no longer scarring.
