to mrsjvb and the first one: Well, I think that my husband prefer a high paying+bonus+benefits job rather than one like in a fast food restaurant (is just an example), where are no benefits and no oportunity to get a better life. so I think is worth the effort to have a job u dislike, but knowing that your family will have a good future. and like ironjag sayd, army is volunteer, but not the job.

It varies, depending on how critical, how long you enlist, etc. Talk to a recruiter, because it changes depending on the service needs.

Keep in mind that if it is 'Critical' it is because they have a hard time getting people to do the job or keeping people in the job once they do sign up for it.

It's likely critical because the work conditions suck, you deploy a lot, you are at great risk of dying or serving in combat, etc.

Don't join the military for the money? It's a volunteer Army, but not volunteer work. Of COURSE you do it for the money. PATRIOTS deserve pay. The military SOOO believes you deserve pay they offer you BONUSES as an incentive. All those soldiers reenlisting in Iraq....doing it because they get a BIG bonus and....don't pay taxes on it. So yes... you do it for the money!

I joined the Army for the GI Bill because my family could not afford college for me. Because of the Army I have a college and law degree and came back to the Army.

If you want to go into the Amry or navy into a critical manned field just for the bonus..then don't bother..... You don't join the military for the money!

EDIT: For your information--my husband IS in the military. he joined the AF 3 1/2 years ago and just made E-5. He turned down a AFSC that came with a $10000 bonus because the job was terrible with LONG FREQUENT TDY's and deployments. Why take a job with a bonus that is going to keep you away from you family constanly just to get a couple grand? You know it's taxed at 25% so you don't get all that much anyway. It's NOT about the mney. The AFSC my husband is in pays the EXACT same as every other AFSC in the AF. We get the same benefits as everyone else too. You need to read up a little more about the military since you seem to be totally IGNORANT about it.

If you are looking for a big bonus the money is in cemical. But I agree with the fact that you should not join the military for the money. The moneys not that great. Any ways I'd go Army.

it changes daily.

don't join ONLY for the bonus money. One, you don't get the bonus until after you complete all your training, and two, you may HATE the job.. and no amount of money is worth being miserable for 4-6 years of your life.

you have already signed a settlement. they do no longer enable you to in straightforward terms shop signing new contracts just to you may chase some money. So via fact that your recruiter advised you no, wager what? No.
