You can check out every single one. If they won't let you go on a tour and ask questions, then it is a bad one since they have something to hide. The best way to see how the child care place truely is is to show up without an appointment and ask to see the facilities. That way they can't clean ahead or schedule you an appointment during quiet time. You could ask coworkers or your church for recommendations. Find a place that you feel comfortable with.

All daycare centers are different, but almost all have a curriculum. The preschool program is usually for 4-5 years olds. The younger groups still have structured curriculum that is age specific. Most states have guidelines for the curriculum. Home daycares would be different and more like babysitting, but you get more personal attention.

You should definitely visit the daycares in person and observe the activites. Ask good questions like:

How many teachers per child?
How often do they go outside?
When and how long are nap times?

Don't get discouraged if the first daycare doesn't work out and don't be afraid to change daycares or stand up to the teachers remember you are the parent and the customer! Also try some bulletin boards or online mommy groups in your area for some other parents input.

Montessori schools are even different. They have a curriculum but allow the children to learn and explore at their own pace. Montessori schools work well for children who may be a little behind or more advanced.

Like I said go and visit ones in your area. It's a tough decision but I am sure you will find one you like.

The difference between MOST daycares and preschools:

Day care facilities are usually designed more of an organized baby sitting program , for lack of a better term. It's more oriented around playtimes and activity times. Preschools tend to be like a pre- kindergarten. More focused on teaching lessons.

Though SOME day care teachers go above and beyond... most do not. If you are looking for more learning vs playtime, I'd suggest a preschool.

Please put that money away for the higher education your child will need.
Teach the child yourself, everyday with everyday examples.
you will be the best teacher your child can have. You know when he/she is getting bored and can change to a different subject or teaching style.
Use math when cooking, shopping, and showing the child about money by doing bills budgeting etc. THEY WILL LEARN.

Use your life skills to teach your child your beliefs, dreams of the future. Let your child learn from someone who cares, not in a mob of other forgotten children.

In the long run you will save money, be able to invest in your childs future, and feel good about what values your child is learning. ALSO there are NO school bullys.

Real school starts soon enough. you will never be able to get these years back to do OVER again! do it right the first time, show that you love your child and don't depend on someone making min. wage to do as good a job at molding your childs education.

BIG BONUS ******** you get to spend time sharing your life with the person that will carry on your dreams and legacy.

Good luck!
