Is dancing allowed? I thought the Osmonds were "mormons"?!

The Osmond family are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called Mormon). The Church has nothing against dancing, singing, playing musical instruments, playing games, etc. The Osmonds have been great people, and are very strong in their faith. They are marvelous representatives of the Church, and the Church is very happy to recognize them as members.

So, why shouldn't Marie dance? Is it that you don't like dancing? Marie is a fabulous dancer and singer, and also is a gifted musician, as are all members of the Osmond family.

Mormons, like many other religions are allowed to dance (and boy can Marie ever dance!). In many religions, dance is often a form of praise. Now, some Mormons might think that Marie is a bit suggestive with the dances she has performed on DWTS. I believe this Woman is a talent to be reckoned with and she should have shown this type of aggression in her performances from the beginning. She certainly has a new legion of fans since she's been on DWTS. Marie Osmond now dances to her own tune and not to the one of the Mormon Church.

Of course dancing is allowed!! Like other people have stated, we have dances, usually for single adults and teen age kids- separate dances for each of them!!- at least once a month in the winter, and a few times in the summer. Dancing to be kept tasteful. DWTS, because it is a choreographed, well rehearsed program would be fine. The dancing may be a little suggestive, but that's her choice if she wants to dance like that. We are allowed to choose for ourselves what we think is right and wrong, and we are able to make decisions on our own. The church doesn't dictate what we do in life.

And yes the Osmond's are LDS. Most of the family lives across the lake from me. They own a very successful real estate business, as well as a few other businesses. We could all take a lesson from them.

And I say it again, people will believe anything. Did you ever even see the osmonds show or even a recording of one of their performances?? Yes, they are Mormons, and mormons are encouraged to dance. And BTW, Benji and Lacey Schwimmer from So you think you can dance are both mormons too. The BYU Ballroom Dance program wins international competitions on a regular basis. Wake up, people, and stop beleiving the lies propugated by an angry preacher or a misinformed media.

Latter-day saints (called Mormons by 19th century persecutors and critics) are not only allowed to dance, but are encouraged to do so. LDS view the body as a temple to the Holy Spirit and, to a small degree, as a physical extension of the soul.

When the saints moved to Utah, the first recreational buildings built were dance halls. In addition to its' member support of almost all forms of dance, every church building hosts dances several times a year.

OF COURSE dancing is allowed in the LDS religion!!!!! We have organized youth dances, and LDS clubs for dancing!!! We just don't condone bad dancing that is sexually suggestive, or dances where the body is in full contact with another body.

What she does is her choice though, whether LDS or not. Whether the church approves of what she does is between her and her bishop, and if she wasn't doing anything morally wrong I don't see what the big deal was. Although if she was doing something morally wrong, you can't blame that on the LDS church. That would be like saying "Just because you had sex out of marriage and you're catholic (or lutheran, or buddhist, or any other church) your church is bad." Seriously. It's her life.

Dancing is not forbidden to LDS members. However, in my opinion. DWTS is a trashy excuse for a show.The accent is on flashiness and sensual moves rather than on talent. Anyhow Marie will soon marry her third husband. It has been printed that they visit in her hotel room, which might not garner church approval unless her eight of so kids are present. Incidentally, I have always liked Marie and her brother Donny. And of course that's show biz for you!

We are dancers. Even crossing the plains to get to the Salt Lake Valley, dancing was a great way to end the day.

There is nothing wrong with dancing.

Psalm 149:1 Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.
2 Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
3 Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.
4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

edit: I have not yet seen the show, but are you sure that her costume is see-thru? Or is it just flesh-colored fabric?

Actually, people of the LDS faith dance all of the time. It doesn't go against their religion. You may be thinking of the omish or jehovah witnesses? I don't know which group doesn't dance. If you want to know more about their faith, you can go onto lds.org . You can read through their doctrine and find out more.
