The insurance told me I have a $500 deductible, plus I have a citation for $117. I am a broke college student and this is my first accident. The damage was minimal to my car, the airbags came off but the body looks fine. Could it still have something wrong in the interior? I have class early tomorrow morning and I need to drive my car. They are charging me 500 dollars, howeer if the airbags is the only problem, is a ripoff for all that insurance I'd paid. I am very upset.

Airbags cost more then $1000 each to replace. So you have more then $2000 in damage to your car, right now.

Anyways your problems are just getting started. You just cost your insurance company maybe $5000 or $10,000. They are going to make you pay for that, with increased rates.

If you can't afford to have accident, don't have one. At least not one thats your fault.

The cost to replace the air bags will exceed your 500 ded. I would turn in the claim on your car. The air bags need to be replaced as they are a safety feature.

The insurance company does not charge you a deductible. When you took out your policy - you agreed to pay for the first 500 of damage if they would pay for the rest. The insurance company will write an estimate to fix your car. They will subtract this amount from the estimate and that's how much they will pay you.

If the deductible is a hardship - let the body shop know. They may be able to cut some corners and save you some of your deductible. Be aware - they are going to charge you for what they do - they may be able to repair a part instead of replace it or put on a used part instead of a new one. But, if the shop agrees to save your deductible - be aware, they will do it by cutting a corner or two - you can't turn around and cuss them out if you get your car back and they did not do exactly what the insurance estimate said.

The deductible applies to the repairs of your car only - not the other folks cars.

If the insurance company settles with the other drivers - ask them to send you a letter saying they have settled with the other drivers. If you take the letter to court, they may dismiss or reduce your ticket.

Several years ago my mothers air bags went off and there was no other damage to her car (long story). When she went and got estimates it was going to cost more than her deductible to get her airbags fixed. So the insurance company isnt really charging you. They are just saying you have to pay the first $500 to get your car fixed and they will pay the rest. Although I agree that it is a real rip off that after all the money we pay we still have to pay a deductible.

Rip-off how? If your car is over four years old the airbag replacement could very well total the vehicle. You don't HAVE to have your car repaired, you know...it's your car. The $500 deductible is just your portion of the REPAIR bill. The insurance company won't charge you 500 bucks if you don't repair it.

As long as the car runs ok the car will be alright. The airbags are there to protect you. They're very expensive and that is why the cost of the repairs.

the other insurance company will probably get you to take your car to a local shop and get a price on how much it would cost to repair. if it cost more to repair then the car is worth they will offer you full blue book value for the car. in which you will have the opportunity to buy the car back with that money but with a salvaged title. However a salvaged title means the car is not worth blue book value but alot less.
