I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.

Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.

Depression Free Method?

Finding the right antidepressant is hell. It's completely guess work for your doctor. He picks one that many of his patients have done well on, but you'll find you do hell on. Then he goes maybe alphabetically, maybe randomly or from past experience down a list...now remember he might try changing your dosages first and you have to be on a medication for at least 6 weeks before your doctor will switch it, meanwhile what's happening is you're feeling worse or nothing at all. It might take a year or two before you find the right medication, some people even longer. Personally, I find depression to be more tolerable than depression while going through the hell of medication.

Then again, some people have a very easy brain where the first med they try is a 'godsend'.

So, ask yourself, is it worth the risk? Is it worth making yourself feel worse for 2+ years? You don't think you can feel worse?? LOL!!!!

i've done the roller coaster for years. some times i feel like the only one that cares about the "real" problem is me.i agree about the doctors not knowing about the medication they are providing. i've had doctors prescribe medications with contraindications to the medications they have already prescribed. so who out there can you really trust?

It depends on the person. Some people get on the right thing right away while it's harder for others. Some have to try several different ones before they find one that works, and a few never find one.

I have been on Desipramine (old drug that isn't used much anymore, Paxil, Buspar, Seroquel and St. John's Wort (herbal).

Paxil has been the best for me. There was a mild side effect of delayed ejaculation but that did not last long.

My brother has been on Desipramine, Paxil, Klonopin, and now Lithium; but now his diagnosis has been changed to Bipolar.

My mom was briefly on Zoloft, and it put her to sleep. But that might be a little different because she had Dementia and a large number of health problems related to Diabetes and Heart Disease.

work with your MD/psych. Don't let other posters scare you about meds and taking a long time to work etc. I was severely depressed and started with zoloft and it worked somewhat but not enough. Doc added wellbutrin sr and slowly increased the dosage until one day I felt I was turning the corner. For me that took 6 months, but I had a lot of issues to deal with too. I have no significant side effects other than a little weight gain. Meds and therapy saved my life.

No one medication is right for everyone, what works for some may not work for others. Only you and your doctor can decide what is right for you, because body chemistry, can vary so much from one person to the next.

It all depends on the person, and is trial and error. My daughter is on Zoloft, so I thought I'd try it. I was horrible for me.
