I lived 18 years of my life in my parents home. Then I got married. When my parents retired and moved to a condo, I wanted to buy their home from them. My mother sold the house to someone else. Years later I approached the new owner of the house, asked them if they would sell it to me. They said yes, for 3 times what it was worth! Many years later, after my parents died, I drove by my parents house. It was a burned-out shell. Then it was torn down. The a apartment building/condo was built on the land. I had a dream that I won a lot of money in the lottery, bought the apartment building, torn it down, and rebuilt, then finally moved into, my parents house. Not the same house; a replica, but similar as possible. My wife says I am having problems with "closure". What do you think?

I think that the house you grow up in is a very special place; however, your memories of the house are probably better than the reality would be if you owned it. If I were you, I'd build my own dream house with my family so that my family and I could build our new dream. In other words, move on.

That house represents a part of your identity...your childhood. None of us want to lose our childhood or our childhood memories.

My memories are as fresh as yesterday yet the gulf coast has all but been wiped from the map in real life. Such is life. Time changes space. But in our minds, it's there alive forever.
Just be happy with your memories.
Do you have any old pictures of the house? I suggest you have an artist make you a painting of the photo so you can frame and keep it as a part of your life as you move on into your adult life. Letting go can be a lot easier if you have a thread to hold onto and sometimes threads are all we have.

I think your wife is right. Letting go is hard but that's why God gives us different people in different seasons of our lives so they can help us let go. Also, so that we will never be alone or without love. Remember what we loved in the past can always be a good memory to help us through tough times. Letting go doesn't mean losing forever.

To see a house in your dream, represents your own soul and self in general. Dreaming about changes on your parents old place and wanting to restore it represents your old beliefs, attitudes and how you used to think or feel, and changes in your current life may be bringing about those same old attitudes and feelings.
