Not likely because most parents want grandchildren.

I wanted one long before I was 17. My parents disagreed. Had I even tried, I could not until I was 18 anyway., because that is the law.

I tried right after I turned 18. I was not successful until I was 21 (almost 22). I had to find the right place, because most. but not all, clinics have policy on age.

My former spouse didn't like the idea, and that is why we split. But, I was determined to have all the sex I want and never have children. After we split, she got pregnant, and the baby was taken away (I saw that coming).

Get one as soon as you can. I got mine just before my 22nd birthday. It was the best gift I could have ever given myself. I am now 41, and still relish in the novelty. You will never regret the choice of getting a vasectomy. Having children is so unnecessary, and overrated.

My brother did the same. Thus, my dysfunctional family has come to an end with him and I.

If you do get one, you had better keep it quiet. Getting a serious date, in your 20's, once you had a vasectomy, is pretty hard.

I feel that 17 is too young to make that big of a decision. At that age you are still growing up yourself and of course don't want a child. I think that a man or woman should wait until they are at least 30. Of course there are exceptions. If you are younger and happily married and both know 100% that neither wants kids, then go for it.
I was 30 when I had a hysterectomy and I really had to talk my doctor into letting me get it done because of my age. My husband and I have 2 kids and we both knew that we absolutely didn't want anymore so I was able to do it.
What I'm trying to say is that I think you need to wait a few years. If you have a vasectomy at your age, many women that you may meet may not stick around due to not being able to have kids with you later on.

My parents didn't know until after I got mine. Well, I was also 24, at the time. They didn't take it well, because I am an only child (my older brother died). I never had children, so they will never be grandparents.

I never thought about it much when I was 17. I don't think you can get one unless you have some kind of genetic disease.

Like the other guy said, dating is hard if women know you had a vasectomy. I am 35, and still can only get dates with women that already have children.

Just to clarify this is the 17 year old's idea not the parents...right?
Personally I think 17 is too young to make a decision like that. So many things can happen in a persons life. You may think you don't want kids now but that may change in 10 or 15 years.

Only under the circumstance that was shown on TV several years ago, where the family carried a defective gene that caused early Alzheimer's type symptoms. Their 16 year old son agreed to a vasectomy and the girls all had their tubes tied, after watching their mom slowly turn into a vegetable. I don't believe there was any certainty that the gene would be passed on, but they agreed not to take any chances.

No. 17 year old children shouldn't be having sex to begin with. Why on earth would sterilization be an issue at such a young age? Besides... eventually one will eventually meet the right woman and marry, and then children might be wanted. To have a vasectomy done and then want to reverse it... that's just silly. Reversals don't always help, anyway.

your still only a kid why would you want to make that decision. that is a live long choice you cant turn back. you may not want kids today, but what about in a few yrs when you meet that perfect person. unless there were mental problems with the child i don't think i would allow it to happen or unless he has already had a few kids in that case hes done enough already.

Only if there's some genetic condition that makes it a really bad idea for the kid to reproduce. Otherwise, he should really wait a few years before doind something he may regret.

I would say if you were unable to have any then it would be a waste of money but I would wait because once you would get one, you would change your mind. That is something that takes time to think about.
