1. Shave the opposite way than you currently do. Such as if you shave toward your belly shave away (it may be difficult at first..)
2. Use lotion every day until it goes away
3. Wear jeans for a while and let them grow out
4. Wax instead

And...
Yes, it's normal. Well, some people get it, some don't. So it's not bad. Yes you can prevent from getting them by waxing or shaving less often or shaving with the hair instead of against (vis versa).

They're caused by hair being pushed under your skin when it's supposed to grow. So they form bumps as they grow, and eventually they pop out. What causes it is basically if you shave the wrong way (which some do with no problem) or make them somehow push back under the skin, or clog the path they have to go through to get out of your skin...

Hope this helped, good luck

An ingrown hair is a hair that curls and then penetrates the skin with its tip as it grows--causing swelling and redness.

The basics:
Shave during or right after a warm shower so the pores that have the hair follicles are larger. Make sure you use a good quality razor and shaving gel or foam.

To deal with the ingrown hairs try:
-exfoliating with a loofah or other type of scrub to take off dead skin
-moisturize with a lotion that will not clog pores
-shave in the direction of hair growth so the hair doesn't curl under the skin and cause ingrowns

Also, you might switch to depilatories (hair removal creams or lotions) or waxing to see if it improves your skin's condition.

It depends on what methods you use to get rid of the hair.. After you wax or shave you are supposed to exfoliate your skin about 3 days a week. Use a gentle loafa and soapo that has added moisterizers (dove) Make sure you moisturize daily... If the problem is serious see a dermatologist cause you may want to try laser hair removal

Ingrown hairs are caused by wavy hairs that curl back into the follicle, build up of skin cells, clothes that press the hair back into the follicle, etc.

Ways to prevent ingrown hairs - exfoliate w/ a shower poof, use a sharp razor & change it frequently, use a product like Tend Skin to clear away old skin cells.

Stop shaving for a little while! (Wear pants, lol). Exfoliate every time you shower, and get a lotion with AHA (alpha hydroxy acid). Make sure you shave correctly, and you might want to think about waxing instead.
