I loved it when it came on! There was a lot of dialog that matched the church philosophy! When I heard them talking about 'key phrases' that we used in church all the time, it was really neat!
The council of the twelve!
Talk about Kolob! ( the star )
I thought the the writers on the show were LDS! I don't know if they were! But I thought it was cool, to think that they were, you know?
I am not a member now, but not b/c of the doctrine! When people slam, what you believe enough, you just give up!
Thanks for a really nice question about the church for a change! It is nice to see it!
I really despise bashers, and cowards that hit and run!

now that I am ex-mormon and I am older, but a sci-fi freak, I have seen the old series and now realize that their was a lot of mythology int he series, IE the characters names were Athena, Appollo ect. There story was based on a christian science theme, if you think about it, adam and eve were actually alien from another planet and they were insearch of earth to find their anscestors, which would make adam and eve aliens. Or do you disagree with this hypothesis?
Anyways, my childhood was very dsyfuntional, I would watch any sci-fi to escape.

I was not a member then, it is only in reruns that I picked up on the connection. Same with Star Wars. I was disappointed in the SciFi series, because it changed so much of the motivation.

I've spent approximately 40 years in bishoprics, prime councils, and clerk positions, and I've obvious a quantity of persons go away the Church. I've sat on a quantity of disciplinary councils. None of them left the Church for the reason that of "proof" towards the Church. There are a few who simply step by step glide away into inactiveness. Sometimes it's for the reason that of a lack of religion, prompted by means of doubts precipitated by means of some thing they have learn. One of my brothers used to be like that, despite the fact that he has given that come again to Church. He did not desire to inform me approximately his doubts for the reason that he had turn out to be satisfied that there used to be no reply to his doubts, and he did not desire to burden me along with his doubts. It is just too unhealthy he did not speak to me, for the reason that there's regularly an reply. Part of his crisis despite the fact that used to be that he used to be watching for a cause to not move on a task, and "blindly" comply with the instance of his older brothers. It used to be in part a pleasure drawback. I have a idea approximately individuals who go away the Church and declare it used to be for the reason that of proof. They fall into 3 corporations. (a million) Some are actually burdened by means of the arguments of guys. (two) Some seem for proof the Church isn't real, however deep down they recognize the truly cause used to be they have been angry or they felt responsible approximately their sins. (three) And others do not fully grasp their possess explanations. In a psychology elegance I as soon as took I heard of an intriguing scan related to this 3rd institution. A man or woman in yet another psychology elegance used to be hypnotized and given a submit-hypnotic concept. The hypnotized pupil used to be advised that once the instructor coughed the pupil might stand up from his seat and open the window to the school room. He would not recall whatever he used to be advised whilst hypnotized. He used to be then wake up from his hypnotic trance and advised to return to his seat. The pupil remembered not anything of what he used to be advised even as hypnotized. The trainer after a couple of mins coughed, and the pupil acquired up and opened the window. Now this is the factor of this tale. When requested why he opened the window his mind instantly synthetic a cause. He mentioned he used to be sizzling, and unusually adequate his frame proved it by means of getting purple and sweaty.

Frak and feldercarp it's a hoot to watch the old stuff. I watch the new one too and it's pretty good but except for the Kobol/Kolob connection it has lost all other reference to Mormon cultural influence.

You're talking about the old version where everyone had sideburns and some of the aliens were puppets :)
Fond memories from childhood - yep.
Haven't seen the new one though.

LOL! My heart skips a beat and I hold my breath everytime I see a question directed to Mormons.
Thanks for the non-hostile Q.
And to answer you... I honestly have never watched it, I think it looks silly.
Reverend_Athiest - I don't watch South Park. There are better, more un-wholesome things to watch. ;o)

None of it's true!! I don't know where you get your facts!!
Wait....That's me on my Mormon question autopilot. Let me turn it off, real fast.
Anyway, I've never watched it. I hear that it incorporates a lot of our beliefs into it, like Kolob. But I've never been a big sci-fi TV show watcher.
Thanks for the non-hostility. I appreciate your kindness and consideration.
