What kind of syrup is most commonly associated with New England? That would be one answer to your question.

If your question includes what kinds of maples grow in New England, you will have to do the following:

go to < http://plants.usda.gov/ >
under Name Search at top left side, type Maple into the window, just below that click the down arrow and choose Common Name, then click State Search.

Now check the names of the 7 states in New England and under Sort By click common name.

You should get a list of all the native (8) and introduced (6)maples in New England.

If things are running slow on the PLANTS end, skip the geographic filter and just count up how many species show up in New England on the range maps for all of the different kinds of maples.
