Since the trinity is not in the Bible where did the word come from?

Not only is the word "Trinity" not found in the Bible, but the entire concept of 'one God in three Persons' is nowhere near clearly defined in the Bible.

Even the Trinitarian(!) NEW CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA had to admit:

"The formulation 'one God in three Persons' was not solidly established...prior to the end of the 4th century. Among the Apostolic Fathers, there had been nothing even remotely approaching such a mentality or perspective." - Vol. XIV, p. 299, (1967).

Trinitarians have to resort to using a bunch of scriptures that are claimed to be 'proof' of the Trinity. But closer examination will show that they are merely misinterpreted:

The word "trinity" isn't mentioned in the Bible, but the concept of a triune God didn't just appear magically. Here is a Scripture reference that might help.
John 1:1-18

Trinity is just the word that describes that which is in the Bible. It means a union of 3 persons. It describes the relationship of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 3 in one. Hope this helps!

Augh! I hate these long ones! The word Trinity isn't in the Bible but the teaching is.
Genesis 1 In the beginning God created...vs 2 and the Spirit of God hovered over the waters(that is two beings,God the Father and the Holy Spirit),Genesis 1 :26,"Let US make man in OUR image.."
Now to include Jesus into this ,we go to John 1, "In the beginning was the Word (Jesus) and the Word was with God, AND the Word WAS God.The same was in the beginning with God...verse 10 He (Jesus) was in the world and the world came into being THROUGH HIM,yet the world did not know Him.
That means He was there at creation too,one of the "Let us.."
Collosians 1 and Hebrews 1 both say All things were created by and through Him the worlds and all that are in them".
So that makes the Father God and Jesus God ,the Holy Spirit was there at creation too.But is He God also?
Peter says in Acts 5 to Ananias.."You have lied to the Holy Spirit...you have not lied to man but to God."
Father,Son and Holy Spirit are God .It is a Trinity but not three separate Gods.It is one God in three persons. One "what" and three "whos". Like 1x1x1=1 three numerals ,one number.
One problem people have is they tend to think of Jesus as not existing until He took on Human flesh. He was always God,He only took the name Jesus so we could relate to Him on a human plane.
It is the same with the Rapture. The word is not used but the teaching is (I Thessalonians 4: 14- 18).

The word "trinity" may not be mentioned, but we see the Trinity mentioned here:

Matthew 3:15-17 (New International Version)

15Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented.

16As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. 17And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."

Voice-The Father
Person-Jesus\
Dove-The Holy Spirit!

Trinity means three in one.
The Bible does talk about a father, son and Holy Spirit...that's three..yes?
However 'Trinity' as explained by the Catholic Church says that all three elements in the Trinity is 'GOD" Which makes it a mystery ...since no one can comprehend this Mystery.

It's in the Bible, the first few passages tell it.
God the Father--- created the universe and all that in them is.
God the Son-- Jesus-- is the "Word" of God, when God speaks.
God the Holy Spirit --the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
Many other verses in other chapters explain it also....trinity is just a term we use for the Triune God.

The trinity is not in the bible. You are correct. Several times Christ mentions the God is His Father and our Father. God, Jesus, and the holy spirit are differnt beings. The trinity was a false development by saying that they are 3n1. Maybe in purpose, not physically.

PAGANS HAVE BELIEVED IN A HOLY TRINITY FOR CENUTRIES AND MILLENIA. THE GODDESS OFTEN IS DEPICTED IN THREES. THE MAIDEN, THE MOTHER AND THE CRONE. THE MAIDEN IS YOUNG AND SEXUAL, THE MOTHER IS MIDDLE AGGED AND NURTURING, AND THE CRONE IS OLD AND WISE. WHO CARES IF THE BIBLE DOESN'T MENTION ANYTHING (ALTHOUGH I BELIEVE IT SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT JESUS BEING SEATED WITH GOD AND THE HOLY SPIRT BEING THERE ALSO.)
