Gifts For Eagle Scouts

2016-10-01 23:18:46 · answer #2 · answered by ? 3 · 0 0

Hello Chance: This question gets asked about once a month on this bulletin board, and there are some nice answers. Check the history for "Eagle Scout gift," and you should find some ideas. Your boy friend has spent the past few years earning this award, and most likely has all the camping equipment and paraphernalia that he needs. Guys don't like dust collectors on the shelf or plaques on the wall. I would bet that he would really appreciate a nice card from you telling him about how proud you are for him for completing the Eagle Scout process. You might also include a certificate for a nice dinner for the both of you at an upscale restaurant. Keep on Scoutin'

RE:
What is a good gift for someone becoming an Eagle Scout?

This question comes up about once a month on Yahoo! answers now.

I usually suggest a card, and if you feel compelled to get a gift, get something practical. I usually give a pocket watch with an Eagle on the cover. The 12 hours remind the Eagle of the 12 points of the law.

BSA has a slew of Eagle paraphernalia at http://www.scoutstuff.org/BSASupply/SearchPage.aspx?page=LIST&free_text|=eagle%20scout&answers_per_page=15
but I would suggest avoiding the trophies or stuff that he may just not have a use for.

Keep on Scoutin'

My son's Scout leader is an Eagle Scout and he still has the Swiss Army knife his Dad gave him at the ceremony.
However, it won't do much good if everyone get the same gift. Isn't there a special ceremony at the White House? Or is that only with certain presidents? If there is a ceremony in DC, perhaps something that will offset the expenses of the trip?

1. Eagle Scouts usually have all the 'eagle' and Scout stuff they can ever use. (Sort of like how every teacher's gift says 'teacher' on it, or has an apple- and they get kinda tired of it.)

2. A good card is all you usually need.

3. Cash or a gift card (music is popular) are usually appropriate if you are not a close friend and feel a need for a gift.

4. Teens usually appreciate things like fun cookies, fancy candy assortments, baked goods, and things for their collections (hats, T-shirts, etc.)

5. I make custom water bottles or mugs for people (including Eagle Scouts) by taking a nice water bottle, travel cup, mug, flask, etc. and using epoxy glue to attach a 'hiking stick medallion', lapel pin (break off the pin part), belt buckle, or even cloth patches (soaked in fiberglass resin or thin epoxy). They are fun, cheap, unique, and generally appreciated.

When I wanted something cooler, I have gotten cheap engraved pet tags to use to personalize the creation and/or filled the bottle with something interesting- coins, candy, cookies, pre-packed drink mxes (the small individual tubes- that was a great gift! I bought about 6 boxes and used wads of tissue paper for filler.)

Other nicely made, useable home-made gifts are also appreciated.

saulg21 has a great idea ~ a proper swiss army knife is a really useful thing for a scout, particularly an older scout.

Other ideas might be a pair of field binoculars, a back pack, or anything that can be useful for hiking, camping and other physical activities.

Best wishes :-)

Years ago a friend (a hunter) was given a nice 22 automatic
rifle (good for rabbit and squirrel) and he was adequately impressed. In the world of today, don't know if that's appropriate.
