Among the U.S. Marines who fought against the Japanese in W W II was 21-yr/o Corporal William Devers, who considered himself an agnostic. No amount of arguing, Bible-quoting or coercion by his fellow Marines or the chaplain could sway him. During the company's first major encounter with the Japanese, a number of the unit were killed and the chaplain was wounded. In great pain, the chaplain called to Devers, "My..left pocket..take it..please..Last night I had a dream. In the dream an angel appeared and told me that I had to make you take the Bible. Take it, son..please." Devers shoved the Bible into his shirt pocket to satisfy the wounded man.
Twenty minutes later, Devers' squad stumbled right into a Japanese patrol, and before he knew what had happened he was on the ground, his mind fading into the darkness, certain he was dying. When he came to, he felt a ripple of pain shoot through his chest, but there was no blood.
The bullet had torn into the Bible he carried in his pocket, ....

For most of my life I'd been an atheist, but I never lost my spiritual nature, and I never stopped believing in angels. I have my own experience to share with you, and because I heeded the warning, my sons are alive today.

On July 9, 1999, our area was hit with a devastating series of thunderstorms that tore the roofs from several homes, downed trees and wires, and left us without power for days. This happened in the late evening, just around nightfall.

For most of that day, however, the weather was beautiful with no sign of things to come. My two youngest sons and I were at my mother's house, visiting with my stepfather while she was having her hair done and getting groceries.

The boys were in the sandbox, and as I watched them play I glanced at the 60 foot pine trees that edge my mother's property. For no reason at all, I set my sights on one particular tree just as I heard a voice tell me, "That tree is going to fall on the sandbox."

I became uneasy, and try as I might I couldn't shake the feeling that this tree was, indeed, going to fall. But when? And how?

As the day wore on, the sky darkened, and it was evident that a severe storm was approaching. My stepfather drove me home to shut windows, and when the kids and I returned to my mother's house they ran straight for the sandbox. Terror gripped me, for I remembered what I had heard and understood it's meaning.

I screamed for the boys to get away from the sandbox and ushered them into the house. Moments later, a fierce storm ripped through, lasting only minutes, but the crashing outside was awful to hear.

When things had calmed down, I went outside to survey the damage. A large tree lay in front of the Pentecostal Holiness church across the street, my neighbors were missing part of their roof. And then my eyes fell on a sight I couldn't believe. There, laying in the sandbox, was the top 20 feet of that tree.

True story.

Yes, I have heard the voice of an angel. I know I have a guardian angel. I have never doubted this because there have been instances in my life when I should have been dead, and I'm obviously not. For instance, I had a bad reaction to my MMR immunization as a child, and I was clinically dead - no heartbeat - thank you shock paddles! There are some people who will react with the reaction that I must be crazy to believe in angels, so be it. I know what I know & I am not afraid to say it.

About 5 years ago, I was driving in Sao Paulo, Brazil, at night, alone with my 3 children. I stopped at the red light. A boy, no older than 12 years-old, approached my window and said to me: "I want money or I kill you". I said aloud "Oh My God!". Suddenly, two men appeared from behind a truck and the boy took off. The two men came to me and asked me "are you OK?" I was in shock!! Later, I was praying and thinking that maybe those two men who scared that boy away were angels from God...

I have several experiences like that in my life that I was saved by my faith and that's why nothing in this world take me away from my path.

Peace!
