He is 9 years old. He was extremely sick a few days ago with a high fever. We had to rush him to the ER. In the ER the doctors took a rectal temperature of 106! They had to give him an enema and a suppository to bring the temperature down quickly since he couldn't keep anything on his stomach. He cried a lot and the experience was very painful and frightening for him. Now I have to take him to his check-up but he is really embarrassed and scared. He starts crying every time. And the doctor has already told me that he will have to have a shot in his little booty.

Tell him it's better to be embarassed then to be sick, and not to worry about it because others have went through the same thing, it's just not talked about.

I would just let him know that even though it's scary and it hurts, that this is the best thing for him, and the doctors would never hurt him, thy are just trying to make him better. Let him knowthat there is nothing to be embarrassed about, the human body is an interesting thing, not something to be embarrassed about. God Bless!

Tell him that the worst is over, and doctors and nurses see this kind of thing all the time. Tell him if he does a good job at his appointment that you will take him out for a special dinner afterwards at his favorite place, or fix him his favorite dinner.

children will bounce back much more quickly than we parents do.
just keep a positive attitude yourself and let this just flow by.
I too am a very sensitive parent, but I quickly learmed that my children were not that affected as I was at their turmoils and trials as I was .
make sure you let your son know that you are in control and you will never let anything happen to him that is wrong.
If he realizes this in his mind, he will feel more confident.

I shot in the booty is optional. Tell the doc you want it in his arm.

I think all you can do is reassure him that the dr. will only do what he needs to do to make him feel better, and that even if it isn't pleasant, it's a lot better than getting more sick.
