The KIV states that prophet, meaning E-lias (Eliyah), vvhereas the NKJ Version and the Recovery Version state the prophet. Does it speak of Elias? I am asking this to confirm something I found out in the passages Iohn 1:19-25. If E-lias is being spoken of here, ye also may find it out, though it be hidden. Thanks for the ansvvers.

I DON'T THINK YE ARE UNDERSTANDING THE QUESTION. LET ME REPHRASE IT.

VVHAT PROPHET ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT IN IOHN 1:21 AND 1:25?

I knovv Elias is the same as Eliyah, Elijah, my Elohim is YHVH, and so on.

VVHO IS "THE PROPHET" or "THAT PROPHET"?
The Ievvs vvere vvaiting for a prophet, Yes or No?
If so, that is the prophet they asked Ionh the Baptist if he vvas him.
VVho vvas the prophet vvhich the Ievvs vvere expecting? (Deu. 18:15, 18)

CHRIST IS THE SAME AS MESSIAH. CHRIST IS THE GREEK FORM OF MESSIAH VVHICH IN HEBREVV IS MASHIACH.

No, it cannot be and is not the Christ/Messiah/Mashich because:
1)They are looking for the PROPHET, NOT THE MASHIACH, and
2)Verse 25 States ...if thou not be that/the Christ, NOR Elias/Eliyah, NEITHER that/the prophet.

VVhich in plain English means: If you are not that/the Christ and are not Elias and are not that/the prophet Elias.

ELIAS MUST BE VVHOM THEY SPEAK OF.

YES?

My keys work well. It's how I choose to type.

Interesting question.

I could be wrong, but I always understood these verses in the following way. The Pharisees sent some men to John the Baptist to find out who he was. By what authority did he baptize? So the men asked first if John the Baptist was the Christ. John replied that he was not.

Then they asked him if he were Elias, or in other words Elijah. In Malachi 4:5 there is a prophecy that " Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:" It was natural that they would ask if John were that prophet, Elijah.

Now, the way I read it, the men were just repeating themselves in verse 21. "Are you Elias? Aren't you that prophet?"

Now, I'll admit that in verse 25 it is even more confusing. It appears that they are repeating their question. If you aren't Christ, and you aren't Elias, and you aren't that prophet, then by what authority do you baptize? If seems that there are three people being mentioned here, Christ, Elias, and "that prophet." I think that is your question, who is the third person?

Well, I think that this is just the manner of speaking of these Jews. They are just saying in modern English, "So, you are not Christ and not Elijah? Are you sure that you aren't that prophet Elijah spoken of by Malachi?"

That's the way I see it. Thanks for your time.

Some of the keys broken on your key board?
It is a Greek to English translation thing. Elias is Elijah. Later he talks about Jeremy, that is Jeremiah. Also Esaias which is Isaiah. In Hebrews ,when talking about Joshua ,he is called Jesus. That's because in Hebrew Jesus is Joshua,or Yshua. In Greek it translates to Jesus(Ieosus)

From the Literal Translation of the
HOLY BIBLE:

21 And they asked him, What, then? Are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. Are you the Prophet? And he answered, No.
25 And they asked him and said to him, Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?
