Hi and good evening. Let's clear a few things up about the US Navy...the branch I am going to in a few months...First off, the US Navy doesn't participate in the Middle East War or any war...What I am saying is I won't go to boot camp and a year later I am a sailor in Iraq? That doesn't make sense when boot camp is 80% book work and 20% physical...So will I be going to war, my friends????

Secondly, as a storekeeper in the Navy...I know, I know and I know that is not the best jobs in the Navy but wouldn't I have time for college or any other schooling that can abroaden my education?

Thirdly and lastly, I heard by many old heads that the US Navy is fun...You travel, you meet new friends, Uncle Sam takes pretty good care of his own and you get to serve your country...

Please answer all my questions to the best ability possible...I'm eagered and at the same time skeptical...please just tell me what you know...thank you and thank you....

Future US Navy SK,
Winston

The U.S. Navy goes everywhere my friend. You as a Storekeeper can be assigned to either a base or a ship. The possibility of you going to the Middle East is fairly good, whether it be a base or a ship. Supplies are needed at both. Some of these sailors are being sent to Marine Combat Schools to learn how to survive in combat. Some sailors other than EOD and UDT/Seals are in combat roles right now. If you get stateside duty that's great. You will probably have time to attend college. Most military personnel do correspondence or on-line college courses. Good luck to you with your new job. The U.S. Navy is a good place to be while serving your country.

Navy is off shore supporting troops in Iraq.

As supply man yeap you will get plenty of chances to go to college since it is mostly a 8 to 5 job.

Fun if you call always getting the crap beat out of you by Marines. Had to throw that one in for Glory of the Corps.

Married well if you catch sea duty you can be gone months at a time. And ships do need supply clerks.

Better idea if at all possible opt for the Navy Sea Bees so you can learn a good trade. And Marines won't pick on you.

To answer your questions:

-You have a possibility of going to war, SKs and other supply ratings are currently in demand in the Middle East to keep the supply lines rolling.

-In any rating (except maybe special ops) you get time for college. College is highly encouraged in the Navy.

-The U.S. Navy is very fun. Don't think it's all play though, every one has to do their fair share of work. But in the Navy you will get the opportunity to travel to some interesting places and experience interesting new cultures.

Thats what I know,

Wow dude. Hey you may also get achance to hunt bigfoot while in the navy if you really want to. My advice to you is to talk to some actual SKs that have been in for awhile. Talk to a couple on shore duty and a couple on ships. Also you are not even in yet, what are you doing trying to clear a few things up about the navy???

1) you're in the military, everybody is deployable :) don't believe the hype
2) you're an SK, which means your going to be on a ship living within close quarters with your fellow shipmates(hopefully everybody practices good hygiene)
3) as far as college, hopefully you can squeeze in some personal time to focus on your education. after all you will have your regular working hours(7-3 or whatever), duty, captain calls, meeting, watch standing, training, meeting, and volunTOLD events to attend. oh and i forgot to mention PT(physical training)...room inspections, uniform inspections, and a bi annual physical fitness test....
4)yea, the navy is fun......traveling in meeting new people is great!!! but it has it's downfalls, being away from your family and close friends all the time..constantly moving around and starting all over again.
5)the navy can be rewarding and you can get alot from it as long as you don't fall victim to alcohol, dui's, and so on(because punishment is sever) you will feel the heat.

They function under distinctive terrain frequently, and that they've distinctive education for various missions that throughout straightforward terms one or the different does. So i could no longer relatively see how one is extra suitable than the different. in case you're speaking approximately weapons and the innovations-set of which they innovations-set the battlefield, i might say that the SEALs have an benefit. They frequently habit stealth operations with, now and returned, silenced weapons. they're in many cases right here and long gone with out being detected. subsequently, the SEALs has between the backside dying costs in each and all the sections of the militia. the eco-friendly Berets, even with the undeniable fact that, have firepower and heavy conflict journey. maximum of them have been in wrestle for a minimum of 5-7 years earlier getting into the eco-friendly Berets. They frequently function in desert environments (immediately) and are often in the main deadly positions. So suviving some missions in the eco-friendly Beret, i assume, ought to generate the sturdiness they're popular for and supply them their stable popularity. yet once you like an answer, i might say, in a CQC combat, eco-friendly Beret might emmerge positive. purely by somewhat.

dude, you SO will be going to be serving in some capacity in the war.. either as an IA on the ground attached to an Army or Marine Unit, or on a ship deployed to the Gulf.

how much time you have to continue your education is partly on you and partly based on Operational Commitments. You may get lucky and have lots fo free time after your duties are done. or you may not.
