Normal voltmeters are rated for 20,000 Ohms per volt (which means that 50 microamps will cause it to read full-scale).

In it's coil , high - so that max 40 micro amperes is used.
You have to open your voltmeter and access it's meter coil, disconnect either of coil's legs, and measure it with your ohmmeter ( use DIGITAL ohmmeter for sure reading ).
