It would take more energy, more time and more cardboard to create a round package for the pizza. We live in a geometric world. We make boxes out of everything because our materials work on longtitutional basis. So we box everything, even if it is round, oblong or whatever.

because making it circular would cost a lot more money, due to the whole archetectual design
imagine: if a pizza box was circular, then it would have to have a special hinge, circumfrence, and the cardboard would probably be more prone to damage due to its circular shape

with a box, all you require is a little folding and wala!
a perfect, low-cost pizza bow
