Then why do politicians, the media, movies, etc. continue to make seem as though it is?

As someone of Hispanic ethnicity, I can't help but be embarrassed and frustrated about all this.

No, to the normal average citizen, its not about race. At least for me, its not. The media & Hollywood uses it to sell, politicians use it to pander votes. Special interest groups use it to raise emotion and incite people into frenzies, and gain support. They are all using it for selfish, personal gains. Sad that they try to exploit people that way, isn't it?

Hispanic ethnicity means Spanish. Chances are you're Mexican or Columbian or something. So why not just say so? Hispanic language seems more to the point of what you're implying. Believe it or not the question about whether this is racial can be easily dismissed by looking at the linguistical history of our country. Or do you not claim that to be your history as well? ITS YOU AND YOUR PEOPLE WHO IDENTIFY RACE WITH LANGUAGE. Not us. Most English speakers are black, but you identify anglo with English and you not getting your own way. Or was that your point...that other Hispanics are doing that? You question was not very clear. Just linked to a bunch of stuff that implied a bizzarre and eroneous connection between American race and language which doesn't currently exist. Looking at our history, majority language speakers win out. English eventually won out over German, French, Spanish, Mandarin, etc. It would just be easier to make English official so we could just debate or talk it out in one language. To insist on debating in my native language, the only language I know, or in the official language of my country is not any indication of my race or racism. However, the language I choose or identify with should tell you where I'm from. I speak English, choose to have political discussion in English, and I'm from America.

Because politicians have an interest in clouding the issue with race, it helps them to maintain a status quo beneficial to them and thier donors in defiance of the will of the American people. The media plays into that, because they seek sensational stories, and racial tensions qualify, while economic issues are 'boring.'

Those who believe we should have wide open boarders (the media, liberals, etc.) make it about race because then they can claim racism and therefore deflect from the real issues - illegal immigration.

Race should not matter, but law should.

It's never been about race. It's always been about criminal behavior.

And crimes is colorblind. Criminals of all colors and ethnicities exist.

it encompasses alot of things, too many different radicals on both sides, are making it nearly impossible to solve. racists will be racist on this topic. conservatives will be conservatives on it liberals will be liberal on this. normaly there are a majorty of people in the middle on a topic but this topic doesnt have that, so you can see alot of nasty things reguarding this topic right now. if there were more people in the middle on this topic then there would be less extreme and radical actions takin by people and govt.

It isn't? So where are the vigilantes at the Canadian border? Do you have any idea how many people cross over from the North?
