I never had a violent dream my entire 22 years of life up until a month ago.
My first dream was about a big guy that was going to hurt me so I strangled him and then cut his wrists.
Last night I dreamt about my old friend and her sister and father. I slit his throat then shot my ex best friend and her sister. I called 911, the firemen came, and everyone was ok.
Either way, I'm concerned. I have looked up information and apparently I'm withholding agression?? Nah, I don't think so. Something else is going on and somebody has to have an explanation.

Both times I have woken up from these dreams I feel shocked. Maybe I don't realize what I am truly capable of or something along those lines. But shocked to the point where I just sit there and feel..well... shocked.

Withholding aggression is one possible explanation. Another is fear that you might hurt someone you care about or fear of being hurt. Has your life circumstance changed recently? Your level of responsibility? Try focusing on the emotions the dreams leave you with. After waking, do you feel confused? Angry? Scared? Your own emotions are as much a clue to the source of the dream as the dream's content.

Dreams like this aren't necessarily anything to worry about, unless they get so bad you have difficulty sleeping.

Nope, I don't worry about your dreams at all. What you really mean is you have never remembered all the other violent dreams you have had, just this one. Dreams are sometimes a way to release emotional stress and violent ones tend to release more than petting bunny rabbits. Sounds more like a weak plot to a B movie, since everyone was "OK" after you released your guilt and called the government for help.
