Your best bet would be to get on a Greyhound bus at Port Authority. I've been on the NYC to Binghamton bus several times years ago when I visited my boyfriend in college. The ride is about 4 hours long. I couldn't tell you the price, I'm sure it's more expensive then when I went, but I know it's affordable.

There is no passenger train service to Binghamton. The closest station is Syracuse; that's waaaay out of your way.
you're better off by bus. Greyhound and Short Line both go between NYC and ol Bing-o.

Unfortunately there is no passenger train service from NYC to Binghamton. If you were a box of cheerios you could hop a freight train. There are lots of them.

mega-bus offers several busses a day........thus, it will never be at the time you want, but take the time to enjoy the city. If your dream is to commute, and thus do it two or more days, then figure out how to live on 3 hours a sleep a night. Megabus rates are between 15 and 30, depending on what time, so, they are crushing the competition price wise.

The closest Amtrak stop is in Syracuse, However this is stil 68 miles away, so you'd have to take a bus from there, but it'd be less time on the bus.
